The villa was quiet except for the constant, soothing rhythm of the ocean waves rolling onto the private beach. Lily had gone to bed hours ago, exhausted from the long day of sun, food, and excitement. Her soft snoring could be faintly heard through the thin walls as Mia slipped out of her room wearing nothing but a short silk robe over her bikini.
The clock on her phone read 12:47 a.m.
She couldn’t sleep. Not after the electric dinner, not after feeling Alexander’s hand on her ankle and the barely restrained hunger in his eyes. Her body still hummed with need.
Barefoot, she padded through the living area and out onto the deck. The infinity pool glowed with soft underwater lights, casting rippling blue patterns across the wooden planks. Beyond it, the ocean was a dark, mysterious expanse under a sky full of stars.
That’s when she saw him.
Alexander was in the pool, swimming slow, powerful laps. His body cut through the illuminated water with graceful strength. Each stroke revealed the flex of his broad shoulders and back muscles. He hadn’t noticed her yet.
Mia’s heart hammered as she let the silk robe slide off her shoulders, pooling at her feet. She stood there in just the tiny emerald bikini from earlier, the cool night breeze raising goosebumps on her skin.
She walked to the edge of the pool and sat down, dipping her legs into the warm water.
Alexander reached the end of the pool, turned underwater, and pushed off. When he surfaced right in front of her, water streaming down his face and chest, he froze.
“Mia,” he said, his deep voice low and surprised. “What are you doing out here?”
“Couldn’t sleep,” she replied softly, swinging her legs gently in the water. “Kept thinking about today. About your hands on my back… about dinner. About you.”
He wiped water from his face, standing in the chest-deep water. The underwater lights highlighted every ridge of his muscular torso. “You shouldn’t be here. Not like this. Not alone with me at this hour.”
Mia slid into the pool slowly, the warm water embracing her body as she moved toward him. “Why not? Lily’s asleep. It’s just us and the stars. No one has to know.”
Alexander’s breathing grew heavier as she closed the distance. He didn’t back away. “This is dangerous, Mia. I’m trying so hard to do the right thing.”
She stopped when only a foot separated them. Water lapped between their bodies. “What if the right thing feels wrong because it’s what you really want?”
He stared down at her, dark eyes intense under the moonlight. Droplets clung to his salt-and-pepper hair and the stubble on his strong jaw. “You’re making it impossible to think straight. That little game you played with your foot under the table tonight… I almost lost control in front of my own daughter.”
Mia smiled, bold and tender at the same time. She reached up and placed her hands on his wet chest, feeling the strong, rapid beat of his heart. “I loved feeling you get hard under my foot. Knowing I was affecting you like that. I’ve wanted to touch you for so long, Alexander.”
He groaned softly, his large hands coming up to grip her waist under the water. “God, Mia… you have no filter tonight. You’re going to ruin me.”
“I hope so,” she whispered, sliding her hands up to his shoulders. “Ruin me too.”
The tension snapped.
Alexander pulled her closer until their bodies pressed together in the warm water. One of his hands moved to the small of her back, the other cupped the back of her head. His eyes searched hers one last time a final silent question.
Mia answered by rising onto her toes and pressing her lips to his.
The kiss started soft, almost hesitant on his part, but the moment their mouths met properly, years of hidden longing exploded. Alexander kissed her back with sudden hunger, his lips firm and demanding. Mia moaned softly into his mouth as his tongue swept in, tasting her, claiming her.
It was her first real kiss with him deep, passionate, and everything she had fantasized about.
Alexander pulled back slightly, breathing hard. “We shouldn’t”
Mia didn’t let him finish. She kissed him again, harder this time, her arms wrapping around his neck as her body melted against his powerful frame. Water sloshed around them as he lifted her slightly, her legs instinctively wrapping around his waist.
“f**k, Mia,” he growled against her lips between kisses. “You taste so sweet. This is crazy.”
“I know,” she gasped, kissing the corner of his mouth, then his jaw, then back to his lips. “But it feels so right. I’ve wanted this for years. Kiss me like you mean it, Alexander. Please.”
He did.
The kiss turned deeper, more urgent. His hands roamed her back, one sliding down to grip her ass possessively under the water, pressing her closer against the obvious hardness growing in his swim trunks. Mia rocked against him, whimpering softly at the delicious friction.
“You’re so young,” he murmured against her neck as he kissed a hot trail down to her collarbone. “So beautiful. So damn tempting.”
“And I’m yours tonight,” she breathed, tilting her head to give him better access. “No one else. Just us. Kiss me again.”
He captured her mouth once more, this time slower, savoring her. Their tongues danced, and Mia felt like she was drowning in the best possible way. Every stroke of his tongue, every flex of his fingers on her skin, every low sound he made sent fire racing through her veins.
When they finally broke apart, both panting, foreheads resting together, Alexander cupped her face with both hands.
“This changes everything,” he said quietly, his voice rough with emotion. “If we cross this line completely… there’s no going back.”
Mia searched his eyes, her fingers threading through his wet hair. “I don’t want to go back. I want forward. With you. I’ve been in love with you for years, Alexander Voss. Not the idea of you the real you. The man who raised his daughter alone, who works so hard, who still has so much love to give.”
He closed his eyes for a moment, conflict and desire warring across his handsome face. “You’re going to break my heart or make me the happiest man alive. I don’t know which yet.”
“Then let’s find out together,” she whispered, kissing him softly once more. “No regrets tonight. Just this.”
They stayed in the pool for a long time, kissing, touching, exploring each other with hands and mouths while the stars watched overhead. Alexander’s touches remained careful he didn’t take her fully that night but the passion between them burned hotter than the tropical sun ever could.
Eventually, he lifted her out of the pool and wrapped her in a large towel, pulling her against his chest on one of the deck loungers.
“I should send you to bed,” he murmured, kissing her temple. “Before we do something we can’t undo.”
Mia snuggled closer, tracing patterns on his bare chest with her finger. “Five more minutes. I don’t want this night to end yet.”
He chuckled softly, the sound vibrating through his chest. “You’re going to be trouble, aren’t you?”
“The best kind,” she replied with a mischievous grin. “The kind that makes you feel alive again.”
Alexander tilted her chin up and kissed her once more slow, deep, and full of promise. When he pulled back, his eyes were softer than she had ever seen them.
“Go to bed, Mia. Before I lose the last bit of control I have left.”
She stood reluctantly, picking up her robe. At the sliding door, she looked back at him one last time.
“Sweet dreams, Alexander. I’ll be thinking about your kisses next door.”
He watched her go, a mixture of awe, guilt, and raw desire on his face.
As Mia slipped back into her room, heart racing and lips still tingling, she knew one thing for certain:
The midnight swim had changed everything.
The forbidden line had been crossed.
And she had never been happier.
