"Care to explain?"
I look between her and my dog, who are both sat on the sofa, wide-eyed in disbelief. She turns from me, putting her head in her hands.
"Please, Wade. Not now, please. Pen will be back soon with some medication, just give me half an hour."
She meekly requests as Reaper places his head on her lap.
"What medication? what's wrong ?"
I move to get a better look at her.
"Jesus, Princess, you're so pale !"
I reach for my jacket and fish my phone out of the pocket, dialling my sister.
"Penny, where the f**k are you ? Hurry up !"
I hang up, throwing my phone on to the chair where my jacket is residing and make my way over to Ava.
"Wade, its fine, I've..."
Im just about to sit next to her as she bursts to life making a sprint to the bathroom with a hand covering her mouth. The clicking of hurried heels fills the room.
"Ava! Ava!"
I run after her not knowing where this came from, I swing thr bathroom door open and see her kneeling on the floor, vomiting into the toilet. Reaper takes a protective stance infront of her and growls at me.
"Easy boy."
I gesture him to me but he doesn't shift. She turns to face me, wiping her mouth then Flushing the toilet.
"It's fine, it's just a headache, hopefully it'll clear up now."
"Do I need to ring my mum?"
My mum being a very well established Doctor with her own practice, is always my first go to.
I can hear the clicking of heels running down the hall to us, Nates feet clearly not far behind.
"What have you done to her ? I knew this was a bad idea!"
Nate looks ready to explode. I turn to face him, not knowing what I've done exactly.
"Nate, enough, it was just one of my headaches. I haven't taken my tablets that's all."
Ava tries to keep the peace, as she stands like bambi on ice, Penny rushes to her side to offer support.
"She has bad blood pressure and I've bet you've been a d**k to her the whole time, Wade. Your my best friend, why be like this to her!"
Wade swings round to me accusingly after looking at his sister.
"How am I meant to know, I haven't seen her in years. Anything else I should know ? Because I highly doubt she should be all in white!"
I didn't think before speaking, Nate just has this way of gripping my s**t at times, coming into my house and accusing me of hurting his sister of all things. I hear Ava sob and we both stop and glance at her. This has Nate seeing red as he steps back ready to throw a punch at me. We've had enough fist fights in the past that i can easily see whats coming. I lean backwards out of reach of his fist and before i can retaliate, Penny steps in between us.
"You"
She points to Nate, go wait in the car.
"and you ! How dare you ! Don't you ever speak about your wife that way."
Penny snaps at me, shoving a prescription bag into my chest.
"Be a good husband and get her a bottle of water and give her one each of these."
Gob smacked, Nate and I both walk down the hall, tails between our legs and part ways at the livingroom. I wave hand at him and hear him leave as I enter the kitchen and place the bag on the counter emptying its contents.
"Ramipril and Fluxotine."
I say to myself studying the tablets. I can hear the girls making their way upstairs, so i decide to linger a bit hopefully i don't catch penny and she sees her self out. I retrieve a bottle of water from the fridge and make my way to the livingroom so I can google these tablets. I want to know the ins and outs of why Ava has to take these.
"Love ya too girly."
I hear Penny as she makes her way down the stairs.
"Wade, just look after her, and I know she means more to you than what you're letting on."
She speaks in hushed tones. Clearly the she wolf has calmed down. She's always been the fiery one out of the 2, even ad children.
"Pen, why is she on these ?"
I hold my hand out to her with the tablets in my palm.
Penny let's out an exhausted huff then adds.
"Thats something for her to tell you Wade. It's not my hurt to share."
She walks around me patting my arm bidding me good night.
I walk up the stairs and pause before our bedroom door, hearing Ava curse at something.
"Here, let me help."
I walk over to her as she's trying to get the fiddly top clasp of her dress undone.
"Forget it."
She snaps, almost tearing the dress apart.
"Princess, don't. Please."
I take ahold of her hands and slide them back down to her side, running my fingers up her arms, you can almost hear the sizzle of chemistry between us. I undo the clasp and take my time undoing the zip that leads just to the top of her bum.
"No. No,no,no. After all you said down there, Wade. No ! Actually while your at it why don't you tell me how you really feel."
Her tone having a slight sting and I can tell the spell is broken and where going to engaging in this pointless too and fro again. Ava then shimmies the dress to her feet and is stood with her back towards me, in a white fishboned corset, matching French knickers with a suspender belt to hold up her stockings. She steps out of the dress and kick off her shoes, her height drastically dropping to 5ft3 showcasing how tiny and dainty she is.
"Ava, I..."
I stumble out, racking my hands through my hair, in complete awe of the woman stood before me, then like adding insult to injury she removes the pins holding her hair in place and let's the rest of her hair cascade over her shoulders as she shakes it free.
"Too little, too late Wade."
She simply says whilst turning to face me purposefully letting me get a good look at her body. It takes all I have not to drop to her feet and grovel to the goddess that she is and always has been to me.
"And for your information, there's a reason I was in white, I'm still a virgin, you prick!"
Ava yells at me, breaking me out of my trance, she walks to me opens my hand snatches out the medicine and the water and she's turned away sauntering into the ensuit, where I hear the familiar click of the door locking.
"Stupid, stupid Idiot."
I mutter to myself, I leave the bedroom giving her the space she needs and I dial Nate to see if he can meet me for some liquid courage and man to man advice.
