Laurel tried not to look as though she was hovering, but she couldn’t help sending quick little glances in Jason’s direction to make sure the hike wasn’t getting to him. Some sweat stood out on his brow, and he was breathing more heavily than she, but so far she hadn’t seen any obvious signs of altitude sickness. She reassured herself that he had the oxygen with him, and if he started to seem as if he was flagging, she’d make him sit down on a handy boulder and breathe some before going any farther. And also, if he really looked as though he was having trouble, she could always take him by the hand and send some subtle healing energy to him, although she would prefer not to do that. There was no reason for him to suspect that anything like magic would be involved, but even so, she didn’t
