Jason took her to breakfast at a funky little spot not far from his house. They had to eat at a tiny table crammed into a corner, but Laurel’s quiche Lorraine was so sublime, she really couldn’t complain about the lack of atmosphere. They chatted about the restaurant and other places in town that were his favorites, all the awkwardness of earlier that morning gone. And she was relieved by that, because she definitely didn’t want to feel as though she had to go on tiptoes around him. Maybe it had been crazy to ask him to stay at her condo, but the idea had leapt into her mind as she stood there facing him in his kitchen, and she’d decided to go with it. If nothing else, at least she would have learned quickly enough if he intended their relationship to be nothing more than that one shared
