Chapter 10
Kyle’s POV
I must be losing my mind. Mika has my head all over the place. I don’t doubt for a second that Killian would kill me before I took his daughter away from him to live with me. Especially not now, not after all that Mika had revealed to us.
“You want her to move in with you?” Killian asked, somehow he managed to sneak up behind me. If he were my enemy I might have been injured by now. And seriously pissed off that he managed to get the drop on me.
“Yes.” I said as I turned around to face him. There is no point in lying to him now.
His eyes narrowed slightly as he stared me down. “She is not going with you. If you want you can move into the pack house in the room opposite hers.”
I wanted to argue with him. Tell him that I am much older than him and stronger than he could ever imagine. But he is the father. And Mika is his daughter. If anything, I would probably kick my ass by now if I was him.
“I don’t want to be separated from her.” I met his stare with one of my own. “She is my mate and I will be damned if I have to spend any more time away from her.”
“The only way you will ever share a bed with her again is if you two are married.” Killian said and folded his arms across his chest. “I know my daughter she won’t marry you now. She is still young.”
“That doesn’t matter!” I growled out. “She is my mate. We will marry before the end of the week.”
“Is that so?” A voice said behind me. The voice belonging to the woman I would give my all to be with forever.
I turned around to face a slightly pissed off looking mate. Her violet eyes shone with anger and . . . a challenge?
“Yes.”
Killian grunted behind me but I ignored him. “You will marry me.” I told her. My voice held more certainty than I felt in that moment under her gaze.
“I don’t think so.” Mika said then walked away from me and made her way to the kitchen where Skye and Elijah were.
I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards me. “We wasted enough time with all our foolishness. We will marry.”
“How many times have you gotten married before?” Mika asked. Something seemed to flash behind her eyes as she asked that question.
I knew my answer would upset her and that is the last thing I wanted to do. But, I refuse to lie to her.
“Twice.”
Mika rolled her eyes and pushed her hands against my chest. “We just mated and now you moved from asking me to move in with you to marrying you. By the end of the week at that.” Mika huffed out, “oh, but that’s not all; you have been married twice before and I don’t even want to think about all the women you have been with before.”
“Mika.” I said in a warning tone, this is not a discussion I want to have in front of anyone and it seems like Skye and Elijah wanted to hear where our conversation was leading to.
“Don’t Mika me.” Mika growled out and then threw an apple at my head. “Come to think of it. All those women you have bedded in the past did you court them before you ended in their beds or did you just pay them.”
I cringed. I really can be stupid sometimes. I blame Mika for my irrationality. I love her so damn much and I want to make her mine in all ways possible.
“We have a threat on our hands at the moment maybe once that is taken care of we can revisit the topic of marriage and moving in together but until then . . .”
“Stop!” I shouted. “What is going on Mika? Why does it feel like you’re looking for reasons to push me away?”
Mika sighed and then dropped into the high chair next to her. “I keep getting visions of your past.”
I gulped and I am sure that the whole pack house heard it. I have a very long past. And right now there is so much I regret. There is so much I did that I wish I could take back right now.
Especially now, after seeing the look in Mika’s eyes as she told me why she is trying so hard to push me away right now.
“I get that you have been alive for a very long time. I just need time.” Mika said as she offered me a small smile. “I do love you. I am just not sure I can handle everything in your past right now. The closer we get the more the visions of your past come to me.”
“I understand.”
“Do you really?” Mika asked as she raised her brows.
“Yes, I am going to move into the pack house and I would love to take you out to dinner sometime.” I told her and pulled her up from the chair so that I could feel her chest against mine. “I am going to court you till you give in. I got a past that is as old as time itself.”
“Kyle.” Mika said my name on a moan as I kissed her. Her lips soft and pliant as she kissed me back. When I pulled back her lips were slightly swollen and her eyes still closed.
“I am taking you out tomorrow night.” I told her and then left her standing there with Skye and Elijah shaking their heads.
Now all I need to do is plan the perfect first date with Mika.
Mika’s POV
Damn him! Why did he have to be such a good kisser?
It is because he is our mate.
My wolf answered for me.
Yeah, and he has had plenty of practice. That is something I am going to have to get over. I can’t exactly expect that a man who has been alive for as long as Kyle has to have been celibate for millennia.
If I had not had that vision of the past of him with a beautiful blonde woman with plump lips painted red leading him to her bed and slowly undressing for him.
My wolf growled and I felt a pang of pain.
The past is supposed to remain the past and the past that is older than I am should not even be in my mind. “Are you okay?” Skye asked me. Looking into her violet eyes now made me feel like I was looking through a mirror.
“I will be.” I said and offered Skye a reassuring smile.
“I have a question, as a concerned grandfather.” Elijah said as he lifted a hand. “How old is Kyle exactly? I mean he doesn’t look older than twenty five.”
I cringed. That is not something I wanted to answer, because if I had to be honest with myself that is something I don’t know either.
There are some things that should just remain a secret.
After spending a few hours poring over some of Alex’s old spell books looking for something.
Anything really, to reverse what was done to my mother.
My neck hurt and I was exhausted. So I laid my head on the desk and let the tiredness take over and pull me into a deep sleep.
I was in a boutique looking for a dress and I came across one that would be perfect for me. It is a black cocktail dress that would be perfect for my date with Kyle tomorrow night. It won’t matter where he takes me it would be perfect.
I went to the dressing room to try it on. When I walked out to take a look in the mirror, I smiled at myself. The dress really is quite perfect. It hugs all my curves and still manages to leave plenty to the imagination.
“You look lovely.” I turned around to see Cassie smiling at me. She dangled a pair of black and silver strappy high heels in her hand.
“Put this on, I want to see how it will look with that dress.” Cassie said as she handed me the shoes.
I kept my eyes on her as I put the heels on.
“I have been waiting for you to fall asleep. To be honest I didn’t think this is what you would be dreaming of.” Cassie said as she took a seat and crossed her legs.
“Why?”
Cassie didn’t say anything. One second she was sitting on the couch placed in the viewing area the next she is right behind me. Her hands on my shoulders and I am staring at our reflection in the mirror.
“You look beautiful. I think I got the perfect necklace for you to complete this outfit.” She lifted her hand behind her neck and unclasped the necklace she had around her neck. “This is the last thing I have to help me remember my past. You should keep it.” She said as she moved my hair to the side and clasped the necklace around my neck. I have seen this necklace before. It was supposed to help keep the darkness inside her at bay.
“See you soon Mika.” Cassie said as she disappeared.
I woke up and realized that I was still in the library. The only difference is that I had the necklace Cassie gave me around my neck.
“Hey Mika?” Kayla whispered. She was wearing a cute purple shorts and a tank top. “Jace said you should probably go to bed now, before you fall asleep in the library.” Too late for that.
“Okay, thanks for coming to get me. I would have thought Jace would have come down to fetch me.” From the look in Kayla’s eyes I knew that he wanted to.
“Dad wanted to talk to him.” Kayla explained and then moved over to me to help me tidy up the desk I was sitting by. “I can’t believe Kyle is your mate.” Kayla muttered.
I laughed when she said that.
“You are so lucky, that man I hotter than the sun. I hope that when I find my mate he is half as sexy as yours is.” Kayla grinned at me. “Nor can I believe that we are actually cousins. That is so cool!”
Yes, it really is cool.
Before, all I had was my father and it was just the two of us against the world. Now I have an entire family I never knew existed.
“It is. And in regards to your mate, when you meet him my mate won’t seem as sexy as him. I am sure he is going to make you the envy of every girl around.” I told her and we both burst out laughing when we heard a low growl and saw Jace standing by the door with his arms crossed over his chest. “I hope you don’t find your mate too soon Kayla. If you do I am going to find the tallest tower there is and lock you up in there till you’re fifty.” Jace said, always the older brother.
“No fair. Mika found her mate now.” Kayla grumbled.
Is this what having a family is like?
“Mika, managed to sneak behind my back and mated with Kyle before I even realized that she found her mate.” Jace replied and stared pointedly at me. “ I am going to keep a close eye on you. If any male gets too close to you, I will kick his ass all the way to China and lock you up somewhere.”
“Is that so?” Skye said from behind Jace. “With you around I don’t think any of these girls are ever going to find their mates.
Jace turned sideways and grinned at Skye, “that is the plan.”
We all laughed, well everyone except for Kayla who groaned and rolled her eyes at Jace.
I crawled into bed and let sleep take me over. My dreams were filled with memories from Kyle’s past, but somehow my family past was mixed with his. With all the memories I am collecting there is no escaping the mess it is making in the dreamscape for me. I can’t tell the difference between memories and fantasies.
When I woke up there was a blood red rose on the pillow next to me. A small card lay beside it.
Three simple words were written on the card, in elegant handwriting.
Good morning love.
I smiled at the note. It wasn’t much but it sure is sweet.
When I went to shower, there was another note stuck to the shower door.
I can’t wait to see you tonight.
I soon found that there were little notes all over my room. When did he get in? And why didn’t I hear him move around my room.
He even left a note in my underwear drawer.
Wear this tonight.
The note was attached to a black lace panties and bra set I bought last year. It is the sexiest pair of lingerie that I own. I just haven’t worn it yet for any occasion.
I put on a sports bra got dressed in a pair of yoga pants. I wanted to go for a run. And there is no point in pulling on a top as well. I am just going to get sweaty and I am going to train with Kyle today and with the others after my run.
After my run I went to the kitchen and found another note.
Breakfast is served.
What breakfast?
Just then Kyle appeared and pulled out a fresh batch of croissants from the oven.
Now I know what that smell was.
I smiled at him as he took a few things out of the fridge and set out everything neatly on the table.
“What is all this for?” I asked him, as much as I love what he is doing for I can’t help but wonder why.
“This is because I love you and you deserve to be treated as a queen.” Kyle said.
I walked around the kitchen table right up to him and pulled his head down to mine. “I love you too.” I whispered against his lips. His mouth crushed down against mine and I moaned into the kiss. He pulled me closer to him. My body mended to his. We are a perfect fit.
“There is something else you should know.” Kyle said as he pulled away slightly. “I have never cooked for any other woman before.”
That knowledge brought a smile to my face. I might still have plenty of insecurities when it comes to him but he is slowly putting them to rest.
After a full day of training with both Kyle and Jace and then practicing simple spells with Alex, I was exhausted. But remembering that I have a date with Kyle tonight gave me a new sense of energy.
I rushed to my room and got into the shower. After quickly washing my hair and making sure I smelled like roses instead of sweat. I went to my room and put on the lingerie that Kyle told me to put on for the night. I quickly dried my hair and then realized that I have nothing to wear.
When I opened my closet, the beautiful black cocktail dress I saw in my dream hung in my closet with a clear plastic bag over it. The black and silver strappy high heels were also with it.
A note was attached to the dress.
You looked quite beautiful in this. Thought you would love to have it. Cassie
She was in my room. She really was in my dream. The necklace belongs to her and I don’t know what to make of this.
Why is she doing this?
After taking a few minutes to think about things I decided to put on the dress.
The necklace felt heavy against my chest, but it also felt reassuring. Almost like it would keep me safe or something.
I should really talk to Alex about the necklace.
When I made my way downstairs Kyle was standing there looking like a god dressed in a black jeans and a white shirt that stretched across his chest.
His gaze followed me as I walked down the stairs. When I reached downstairs Kyle pulled me into his arms and moved his lips to my ear.
“If I didn’t promise you a date, I would pick you up right now and run to your room.” He growled.
I smiled and then laughed when he grumbled a few more words that sounded like he was a little uncomfortable.
We drove to his place where he had a really romantic setup in his backyard. There were fairy lights that shone light on the table for two. Music played in the background and a heavenly smell wafted from the kitchen.
I wanted to cry when I saw what he had down. Everything looked amazing. He really went all out.
“This is beautiful.” I said as I turned around and faced him. He looked a little flushed but then grinned when he saw how happy I was.
“I am going to pour you something to drink and then bring out the first course.” Kyle said.
He pulled out a chair for me and then quickly rushed into the kitchen. He brought out a roasted lamb, I could smell the rosemary, thyme and spices he used and felt my mouth watering. But not for the meat he just brought out.
After supper we just spoke. Talking to him like this felt good. I heard a song, with a slightly haunting melody began to play and Kyle asked me to dance.
He held out his hand for me to take. And placed my hand in his, he pulled me against him. I rested my cheek against his chest and breathed him in.
When the song came to an end, I didn’t move from his arms.
“I want to see your wings.” I said softly.
Kyle seemed to study me for a few seconds. “If that is what you want.”
He took a step back from me and began to unbutton his shirt.
Oh, boy. Couldn’t he show me his wings without taking off his shirt?
Once his shirt was off, his wings expanded from behind his back. They are beautiful and tips of
his wings seem to graze against the ground.
He looked worried for some reason.
“You look beautiful.” I told him as I stepped towards him. I raised my hand to touch his wings.
They felt like silk but were as strong as steel.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled his mouth down to mine. He pulled me closer. I kicked off his shoes and stepped on his feet. His arms wrapped tightly around me. He began flapping his wings and I knew we were flying.
If felt incredible. I know this is not my first time flying with him, but this time I am actually aware of it.
“Ask me.” I said I wanted him to ask me now. I needed him to ask me now.
“Ask you what?” he asked sounding confused.
I brushed my lips against his. “Ask me to marry you.”
His eyes lit up. “Mika, will you marry me?” his arms tightened around me even more. He needed reassurance that I won’t disappear before I answered.
“Yes.”
