Chapter 11

Cassandra’s POV TWO WEEKS LATER I watched her. Ever since I gave her my necklace I have kept an eye on her at all times. The werewolves struggle to sense my vampires. So far, no one notices that I am watching Mika. I have also kept an eye on Jace, the Alpha’s adopted son. They seem so much alike, their features are quite similar.  Laude, my second in command, stood before what looked like a pile of papers and maps.  “We should kill the girl.” His cold voice made me pause in mid-stride.  “You will do well to remember who is in charge here. That girl is not going to destroy anything that we have built. She is weak and has only had her first shift two weeks ago.” I told him as I made my way to him. As I rounded him to move to the other side I scraped my nails against his back. He bled, but just as quickly as the wound was inflicted it was healed.  “She is making the others afraid. They are questioning your judgement in keeping her alive.” Laude replied.  “No one is to touch her!” I narrowed my eyes at him. “We are keeping an eye on her and I also have access to her dreams.” I smiled as I thought about the dreams that Mika had. After the first time I revealed myself to her in her dream, I watch through her dream bubble now. She does not need to know that I am keeping a very close eye on her.  I told Laude that she is weak, and she is. But she is also a very strong warrior. She might not have any powers, from what I could tell but she is a bit of a strategist. She moves with the agility of a cat and the precision of a cat. I wonder how she would fare against a vampire. It takes two of the strongest werewolves to take down one of my vampires.  “No one will touch her. But we need to do something to put the others at rest.” Laude said. I stood still for a moment and admired the man who was once in the Special Forces. I changed him after I watched him for a month. He impressed me like no one else ever had. He has control and aside from being a good fighter he has a brilliant mind. He kept his dark hair short all this time, since I changed him ten years ago. He still looks like the twenty nine year old man I changed after his wife was brutally r***d and murdered. Once I changed him I helped him exact his revenge on the men who murdered his wife.  “Cassie?”  “If we are to put their minds at rest, we will kidnap the girl. She is getting married tomorrow. It seems that she and her mate are impatient and want to be married as soon as possible.” As I told Laude that a plan began to form in my mind.  “What are we going to do?” Laude asked, his red eyes told me that he wanted a straightforward answer.  “We are going to kidnap her.” I said and smiled as he turned back to the map on the table.  Mika’s POV As I sat up in bed, I smiled. Things have been quiet for the past two weeks. No attacks. We know this might be the calm before the storm. But everything has been great.   Kyle and I have been nothing but great.   And tomorrow we will be married.  My father through a fit when he found out we were getting married, he wasn’t happy at all, especially since I am only eighteen. Jayden took his daughters to his office while my father went off on Kyle and me.  From what Kayla told me. Jayden threatened to m**m any man, mate or not, if they so much as touch his daughters till they are thirty.  We had a good laugh about that.  After two days of the silent treatment from my father, he finally relinquished and gave us his blessings. But he made sure that we knew that under no circumstances are Kyle and I to sleep in the same room until we are married.  I can tell you this much having s*x with my mate whenever, wherever I can has become something of a challenge that we have failed miserably at. Aside from a few very hot make-out sessions, we have been . . . waiting.  “Mika?” Kayla asked as she slowly opened my room door.  “Come in!” I shouted and pulled my knees under me as Kayla walked in, she too wore a huge smile on her face. “How is my maid-of-honour doing on this fine morning?” Kayla glared at me then smiled. “Things are all in order for tomorrow.” “That is not what I asked.” “I am excited. When Kyle sees you in the wedding dress you bought he is going to explode.”  Kayla grinned.  “Let’s hope he, as you put it, explodes after he says I do.” We laid back down on my bed and spoke for a few minutes and joked about.  Skye walked in while we were in the middle of a fit of laughter.  “Well, I came to wake you up but it looks like I just need to drag you out of bed.” Skye said. “This is your last day as a single woman, the girls are all waiting for you. Go shower get dressed and meet us downstairs. Your bachelorette party starts at noon sharp.”  “Please tell me you got strippers!” Kayla said rather loudly.  There were a few angry curses, it sounds like someone broke something.  Skye and I started laughing. Jayden and Kyle pushed through my room door.  Thank goodness I picked a cute pair of pajamas to wear last night.  “Can I help you gentlemen?” I asked sweetly.  “Kayla is staying right here today. There is no way  you’re going to expose my baby girl to male strippers.” Jayden all but growled.  “You’re cancelling your damn bachelorette party. No one said anything about male strippers.” Kyle shouted. He glared at me, I was having a hard time keeping my laughter in. Damn Kayla and her big mouth. Her mate is going to have to have the patience of a saint to deal with her.  “Who said anything about MALE strippers?” I asked innocently as I slowly got up.  Jayden and Kyle stood there with their mouths hanging open. Skye smacked them both behind their heads. “There were not going to be any strippers, but after you two buffoons made the suggestion, I think I am going to see if I can hire two or three now for tonight.” Skye snickered.  “Like hell you are!” Elijah yelled, from wherever he was in the house.  “I love you honey.” Skye yelled back.  “I love you too! But no damn strippers male or female!!!”  We all laughed and I kissed Kyle.  “After tomorrow, we’re going to be married.” I whispered against his lips.  “I know.” He growled as he claimed my lips again.  Sadly, there were no strippers. But we had so much fun. Kayla and her mom sure know how to plan a bachelorette party. I could also see where Kayla gets her cheekiness from. She is a lot like her mother.  After a long day of pampering and partying I was more than ready to get some sleep. The necklace that Cassie . . . Callie? . . . my mother gave me still hung between my breasts. It was warm and reminded me that I must find a way to save my mother from herself.  As I fell asleep I let a tear escape. I should be happy, not sad. I am getting married tomorrow.  In my dream I wore the wedding gown I bought with Skye and Kayla. They were with me when I chose it. I showed it to my dad and he had a tear in his eye. I don’t think I have ever seen my father cry before. I smiled at him and hugged him as he engulfed me in the only safe embrace I have ever known till now. From now on I will have Kyle in my life.  I was walking through the woods taking a deep breath. The dress covered my front, and had delicate sequins on the front. The back dipped down low, half my back is left exposed and the dress puffed out from the waist down.  I felt a flutter in my stomach and placed a hand there. The engagement ring that Kyle bought me the day after I agreed to marry him shone from the sunlight hitting it.  Cassie stepped out from behind a tree. She smiled at me as she circled me.  “The dress is beautiful, getting married soon?” She asked.  “Tomorrow.”  Her brows lifted in surprise. “That dress must have worked more miracles than I thought it would.” I smiled at her.  “Why are you in my dream?” I asked, because as much as she frightens me she is still my mother and a part of me wants to believe more than anything that she cares about me.  “I wanted to see you. I want to see you for real.” She told me, she sounded so honest about her reasons for visiting my dream.  I want to see you too. I thought.  “Meet me tomorrow before you walk down the alter. You got something old around your neck, I want to give you something borrowed and blue too.” She smiled.  I haven’t even thought about that.  “Where should I meet you?” “Right here.” She smiled one last time before she disappeared and I felt like I was pulled out of my dream.  In less than an hour I am getting married. And I still have to meet with Cassie.  My father walked into my room as I stared at my reflection in the mirror.  “You look beautiful.” He said softly. “If you got cold feet my car is parked out back and the tank is full.” I laughed and turned around to face him.  “Thanks Daddy, but I love him too much to leave him.” “I know.” “Can I get a few minutes alone, please?” I asked him.  “Sure.” When he left I waited two minutes before I snuck out. It is difficult to move in my wedding dress. I should have met with her while I was still wearing sweatpants and sneakers.  I made my way to the clearing that she showed to me in my dream and waited. A sound of branches breaking alerted me to someone behind me.  The red eyes I saw did not belong to my mother. Two vampires stood before me. They flashed their fangs to me. It was a trap.  How could I be so stupid? I moved quickly to pick up a stick that was as long as my leg. I broke it in half and motioned for them to make their way to me.  This is ridiculous. Fighting in a wedding gown should be outlawed. There should be rules against being attacked on my wedding day.  I kicked off my heels and lifted the sticks in my hand. They should make great stakes.  “What are you waiting for?” I asked. Since when am I impatient to get attacked? They seemed to be waiting for a go ahead or something.  Just when I was about to  shift and hopefully tear through them back to the pack house another vampire appeared. He didn’t look like the other two. He looked more in control.  “Come with us peacefully or die and risk our wrath on the ones you care about.” He said, he sounded bored and like he was quoting lines from some B-rated movie.  “Come and get me,” I said as I lowered the sticks slightly.  He nodded to the other two men. They rushed towards me. I managed to stake one in the heart the moment he was in front of me. The other one moved behind me and wrapped his arms around me.  “That was very stupid.” His fangs scraped against my neck.  I pushed with all my strength, pushing the other stick into his side. “You thinking I would let you take me without a fight was stupid.” I told him with a growl of my own.  I looked up just in time to see the last vampire who seemed to be in charge make his way to me. He stuck something in my neck.  The last thing I heard was him telling the other vampire to clear things up.  I sure did screw things up for myself.
