Chapter 9

4061 Words
Kyle’s POV She is still fast asleep in my bed. Her legs are tangled with mine and she is making a soft little purring sound as she sleeps.  It is late in the afternoon and I still don’t have it in me to wake her up.  We were up all night, stayed up past dawn.  She gave herself to me.  She told me she loves me.  And I know I am a bastard because I am never letting her go. I don’t care that I will have to watch her grow old and die one day. I am going to stay with her forever. For as long as she lives I Will be by her side.  It is insane, an angel and a werewolf, a direct descendant of the moon goddess. It is a sick cosmic joke, if ever there was one better. When she told me I am her mate, I nearly laughed out loud. Then I wanted to claim her as my mate.  Everything about this situation and so called destiny is twisted.  Mika purred as she seemed to stretch out a little and then opened her eyes. For a werewolf she sure purrs a lot, not to mention the fact that she is as agile as a cat. Those moves she pulled when fighting with Dev and Mitchell yesterday were slick and I am pretty sure some of the feline shifters I have met in the past would be more than impressed by her agility and feline grace.  Mika parted her lips as though she was about to say something, but then looked like she decided against it.  “You must be famished. I can make us some sandwiches if you want.” I offered. I made a point to stay still. Her legs were still tangled with mine and I loved the feeling I got as I got to watch her sleep for a few hours and witness her waking up after the amount of love making we did.  She is utterly stunning and glowing. And detached.  “No thanks. I should be going.” Mika said as she got up and wrapped the blanket around herself. She pulled the blanket off me and let me lay there exposed in all my glory. Evidence of what we had done was on the sheet. Mika took note of it but then she kept her gaze  over my body and she licked her lips.  “No. You are not going anywhere.”  I told her as I got up from bed.  Mika took a step back and bumped into the dresser.  “Kyle, what we did was a mistake. I happen to agree with you that we should not be together.”  “No.” “I am just going to get dressed and then head back to the pack house.” Mika said and then started looking around the room.  “I might have ripped your clothes to shreds.” I told her when all she found was what was left of the top she wore last night.  She glared at me but that didn’t stop her from finding something to wear. She walked over to my closet, found a shirt in the hanging section and put it on, over the blanket. Not once did she take her eyes off me as she buttoned up the shirt. She tugged the blanket out from under the shirt and let it fall to the ground.  “You are not leaving me Mika. I won’t let you.” I pulled on a pair of pants that was lying nearby and stalked towards Mika. “I know what I said before but we belong together.” “All it took was a few months, for my hatred for you to grow, me running in the woods in a belly  dancers costume and a night of s*x to make you realize that.” Mika said, her voice was neutral, it was like she was fighting to keep any and all emotion out of her voice. “I don’t think so Kyle.”  Why was she in such a rush to leave? Just a few hours ago everything was good. It was perfect.  Then it hit me. It was all a ploy. “You used me.” I growled out.  Mika’s eyebrows furrowed.  “It was all a ploy. I must say your plan worked perfectly?” “What the hell are you talking about?” Mika asked. It was also the first time she showed any kind of emotion since she woke up. “What plan?” “You knew I would always be watching you. So what, you think would hook me by making me jealous? Then that whole act when you just started running through the woods as though you were scared for your life. And the cherry on top of it all, to bring me in, tell me you love me.” I shouted at her. Again.  Once again I have been betrayed. I should have known this would happen.  Adelia and Mika not only look alike but they are both betrayers.  “You are exactly like Adelia.” I spat out.  Mika slapped me, directly after I said that. “I might not know who that woman is, but I do know one thing. I am nothing like her.” “You got what you wanted from me. Now you’re just going to leave. Fine, you might not be exactly like her but you are both deceiving wenches. I hope you are happy. I would have expected the shift to happen by now, since we are mated and all.” As the words flew out of my mouth they tasted bitter.  Mika let out a bitter laugh. There were tears in her eyes.  “You are even more foolish than I thought you were.” She then walked out the room and when she reached the living room door she turned around. I had followed her to the living room. “For your information, I was scared for my life last night. She was supposed to kill me last night but because you interrupted, it might be tonight. Goodbye Kyle.” She said and then ran out the door.  “What?” Before I had more time to think about it, my cell-phone rang.“Yes?” “Mika’s missing.” Jace’s frantic voice announced. “She went to fetch my present from her room last night and then I don’t know.  Kayla went to check on her this morning. We found a note. “ “What did the note say?” I asked, doing my best to ignore the ache in my chest that I felt as Jace spoke.  “It says by the time we read the note she might be dead. She goes on to explain something about an alternate present life and a whole bunch of s**t that doesn’t make sense.”  Jace said, he sounded scared.  “Mika spent the night, by me.” I stated. The line was silent for a few seconds before Jace spoke again. This time his voice sounded more lethal than frantic.  “Where is she now?” ”She just left. We had a fight.” I realized everything I said to her and dropped the phone. I needed to get to her. I need to apologize and tell her I was wrong. I am a screw-up, it is no wonder she doesn’t want a life with me.  Thousands of years old and still I act like an i***t.   I ran out and just started running in the direction I am sure Mika would take as she said she was headed back to the pack house. Screams filled the air. I ran directly to the screams and found Mika withering on the ground. The sound of bones cracking made me cringe. Mika was in so much pain. This must be one of the most painful shifts I have ever witnessed.  “Kyle?” Mika said my name between screams.  The shirt she was wearing was silently torn and she carried on grasping at the shirt. Ripping it more and more as the shift took hold of her. Although it was still light out, I could see the moon.  “s**t!” I picked up Mika, and although it was difficult to keep her in my arms as she kept on thrashing  and scratching me, I ran towards the pack house. It would take me ten minutes to run towards  the pack house with Mika in my arms.  Mika’s screams only grew worse.  I ran as fast as I could, with Mika thrown over my shoulder, towards the pack house.  Killian and Jace  met us at the front door of the pack house. Skye ran out as well along with Elijah, Joseph, Sarah and Jayden.  “Get her to the back of the pack house.” Skye shouted at me. She looked worried about Mika and I can’t blame her. I am frightened to the point of death right now.  Once this shift fully takes hold of Mika, everything will be alright. At least I hope it will be. Sarah stood still. She was staring at Mika but it seemed as though her mind was miles away.  “We need to help her.” She said suddenly.  “How?” Jace asked, his eyes were wide and I could see the veins popping out from his neck.  Everyone was on edge.  “Skye, you and Elijah need to stand over there.” Sarah said, pointing to two side on the opposite side of where they stood now. “Jace, stay where you are and Jayden you need to move to that corner.”  Sarah’s eyes then landed on Joseph and Killian. They seemed to understand because they too joined the circle or whatever it shape they were trying to make around Mika.  “Now what?” Killian growled out.  “Shift and then focus your energy on her. She is going to shift anyway but at this rate it is going to take days and it is going to be painful.” Sarah said softly.  Immediately everyone shifted. And for the first time in a long time I remembered that I am surrounded by the strongest werewolves who have ever lived. In less than a minute after they shifted, Mika shifted.  Her wolf the most beautiful wolf I have ever seen.  Mika’s wolf was white with violet eyes. Jace’s wolf yapped at Mika. They began playing around.  Everyone looked happy. Even in wolf form.  The sounds of pain and discomfort was completely forgotten in this moment.  She had made it through her first shift. Mika’s POV I am finally free.     My wolf yipped out happily. I am glad you happy. You are a beautiful wolf.  We are beautiful.     My wolf told me and I wanted to laugh. I have never really felt beautiful before. I have always just felt average.     You were never just average.  Kyle looks happy. But I can see the worry in his eyes. He thinks I used him. I mated with him and I loved every moment of it. But we can never be together. He said so himself. If you stay away from him, you will not only hurt him. You will hurt too.  I blocked out my wolf's thoughts. I let out a wolfy grin and then ran. It is the first time I will ever run as a wolf. it takes a little getting used to but it is amazing.  I spent hours in wolf form. I spent time with Jace and the rest of the family and some of the other pack members. It was incredible.  When I changed back Kyle was waiting for me.  “Mika? We need to talk.” Kyle said, although his voice was firm his eyes held so much concern. It was difficult to miss.  “Are you going to accuse me of using you again?” I asked. “No, you going to tell me I belong to you. You might be my mate, but we can agree on one thing. We shouldn’t be together. It just won’t work out.”  I attempted to walk past him, but he took hold of my arm and pulled me towards him. His scent surrounded me. It had me and my wolf yipping in excitement. He slowly walked me back towards a wall.  “Or I could just show you that we belong together.” Kyle said against my lips.  “Or I can beat you to death for laying a hand on my daughter.” An extremely angry voice growled out. Before I even realized what was going on, Kyle was pulled off of me and my father had him pinned to the floor and kept on punching him.  Fear ran through my entire body. the way my father was going on I was sure you would beat Kyle to death, but when I tried to stop my father it felt like something held me back.  “Daddy stop it!” I shouted.  “No!” Those single words always terrified me.  Jayden and Elijah walked in and then pulled my father off Kyle.  Skye held me in her arms as I sobbed.  Jace took one look at the scene in front of him and then sniffed the air. He glared at me and then he took a step towards Kyle. He helped him up from the floor and then pulled a fist back and punched Kyle in the face. Kyle spat out blood and then looked at Jace. “You got your one free punch. Next time you try that you won’t be so lucky.” Kyle said. His voice sounded slightly strained.  I was torn between running to Kyle’s side, reassuring my father and getting out and hope nobody notices me escaping.  “Kyle is my mate.” I said softly.  Everyone faced me. Kyle narrowed his eyes.  “We decided to wait till my eighteen-“ “Sweetheart, I never want you to feel the need to lie to your family to protect my stupid ass.” Kyle said cutting me off.  Why does everything have to be so damn complicated? Why do my feelings have to be all over the place, especially when it comes to Kyle.  “Okay.” I said and forced out a smile. “I think I am going to go upstairs and shower.”  “Not so fast.” Jayden said. My father was still huffing and puffing in anger. “You still have a lot of explaining to do. I want to know more about that very cryptic letter you left.” “Let me go shower and then we can talk. We can all gather in the office.” I told Jayden. It is the first time since I met Jayden that I actually felt like I should bow down or something.  “No-“ “Jayden!” Skye said cutting Jayden off. “Let the girl go and clean up. We all need a few minutes to calm down.”  I smiled at Skye, grateful for her intervention and then made my way upstairs, but not before Kyle took my hand in his. His left eye was already swollen and his lip busted. “I love you too.” He whispered.  After a quick shower and getting dressed in a pair of yoga pants and long sleeved top, I made my way downstairs again to Alpha Jayden’s office.  Everyone was there waiting for me.  Kyle actually looked like he was already healed from the beating he had just gotten. He was now wearing a shirt that looked like it belonged to one of the other pack members because every other male in this room seems to hold some or other kind of hatred towards him right now.  “Where should I start?” I asked, just to break the silence. “I am not sure. I don’t know if I first want to find out about your mate or the letter you left for us last night.” My father asked.  I swear this is the first time he actually seemed to be angry at me. I have never been on the receiving end of his anger before. I must admit. It hurts.  “I found out Kyle was my mate when I after I woke up from my coma. It was the day I met him.”  I told everyone.  “Is he the reason you wanted to leave that day?” Jace asked. Apparently he never forgot that day.  I wanted to lie, but the look Kyle shot me told me he wanted me to be honest. “No, he was just a small part of the reason. Aside from the fact that I look a lot like a woman he once loved and who betrayed him, he said we could and should never be together.” I explained.  “What changed?” Jayden asked. He definitely managed to calm down. Then again he is Alpha.  He must keep a clear head. He must look at things from all angles.  “Last night.” I answered, but I noticed that Kyle shook his head slightly. We are going to have to have a serious talk after this. “The letter I wrote yesterday morning. After that little exercise I did with Kyle. Not only did I see what happened in the past I burned away a block.” I faced Skye and smiled at her. “So you remember having a daughter?” I asked her.  Her eyes widened and Elijah wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “I never had a daughter.” “But you did. Her name was Callie and she was mine and Jace’s mother. Do you remember a Chase? His brother Dean took over as Alpha when he died a little over eighteen years ago.” I might as well get everything out now starting from the beginning. I experienced something like nineteen years in a few hours.  “I remember Chase, he was murdered. They never found his murderer. I think they said a vampire killed him.” Elijah said. “He and Jayden were good friends before he died.”  I rolled my eyes at that comment especially after everything I found out. “Chase is my biological father. He was Callie’s mate, but he couldn’t keep his pants past his ankles. My mother fell in love with you.” I said to my father. “And from what I could tell, you loved her.”  His eyes widened when I said that.  “What are you saying? My mate died years ago.” My father told me, his eyes focused on mine. I just wish I could project everything to everyone. This is going to take a while. I also wish I could access my powers.  “I am going to speed through everything.” I told everyone and then took a deep breath that actually hurt my ribs. “Callie was experimented on and it awakened the darkness inside of her.  She knew that Jayden and my father would walk away from everything because they are kind of like her guardians. She didn’t want that, nor did she want anyone to remember and see her as the darkness she was destined to become so she got Alex to erase her.  “The spell and potion that Alex used did not only erase her from everyone’s memories, including her own, it separated Jace and I at birth. You were there when I was born dad.” I looked at my dad as I said that and I saw a tear form in his eyes as he looked at me.  “While I was still in vision, it changed suddenly and I saw what would have happened if she never had Alex do that spell. Elijah would have been dead by now, Joseph would be Alpha. Dev would have been my mate. I would have been well trained in using my powers. The pack would be less than half the size it is now and Jace would have found his mate and lost her.” As I said that I wanted to cry all over again. “And on our eighteenth birthday, mother should have killed me at midnight. She would have killed everyone who got in her way of getting to me so that is why I ran off. She would have drained my powers and taken it as her own. So I planned a contingency, if I died Dev would have gotten my powers.  That is why I had that little fight yesterday. That was planned.” I pointed out that last sentence to Kyle.  “Okay, I think I get it. This is a lot to take in.” Jayden said and he really did look like he needed to shift and go for a run.  “There is one more thing.” The cherry on top of a really deadly chocolate cake. “Cassandra is Callie.” Judging from the expression on everyone’s faces that is not what anyone expected. The look on my father’s face was different though. He looked like I told him his mate came back from the dead.  Skye and Elijah were shaking as my words hit them. The truth about a daughter they had but had completely forgotten about would shake anyone up.  Jayden just looked at me, but I could tell that he was not seeing me, his mind was focused on the fact that he has a sister. I heard the story of how his son was killed by a vampire. He might have the most complicated feelings of all of us.  When we finally got free from everyone. Kyle dragged me to my room. I am surprised he knows where it is.  “You need to pack your things up.” Kyle told me. He looked deadly serious.  “You don’t get to tell me what to do.” I said stubbornly. “Yes, I do.” Kyle growled out. “Aside from the fact that I am your mate, I am older than everyone here combined.” “So my mate is some ancient immortal?” I asked and made a show of putting my hands on my waist and raising an eyebrow.  “Your mate is an angel who fell from grace because he fell in love with a mortal who later betrayed him.” Kyle stated. “Anything else you want to know?” There is so much I want to know.  How are we ever going to make this work? I just stood still and then Kyle pulled me in his arms.  My body molded to his and I breathed in his scent. The man could tempt a nun out of her panties by just standing in front of her. His lips touched mine and I fell into the hypnotic spell his kiss seemed to put me under.  “Maybe you should first talk to my father.” I managed to say when we pulled apart for air. “I would have thought a man as old as you would at least know to do that before taking a girl from her father’s house.” He muttered something under his breath and then kissed my forehead.  “I won’t be too long.” He said as he walked out and left me alone in my room.  What on earth am I going to do about Kyle? We can never work.  I love him. I need him. But when I die there is no telling how Kyle will react to my death, especially if he loves me like he says he does. I still got a feeling that I am going to die soon.  It is just a question of when.
