He did not use notes. He did not have access to notes — eleven months in the north facility had not provided paper and pen. He spoke from memory with the precision of someone who had spent eleven months organizing what he was learning into a structure he could reproduce without reference.
He started with the event. Eight years ago. An electrical failure at a power substation in the eastern corridor where he had been working as a grid maintenance supervisor. The failure had lasted eleven seconds. He had been in direct contact with the primary transformer housing when the failure occurred. He had walked away without injury. The substation had been shut down and the fault repaired and the incident logged as equipment failure and closed.
