-Gage-
I watched her as she fell back into her bed and shut her eyes, her hair falling around her in a soft halo.
I wanted to know what she was thinking, feeling, but I couldn't get close enough to touch her. I settled my palm against the glass of her window, wishing I could hold her close to me, appreciate her gentle curves and tell her how much I cared for her.
I kept my eyes locked on her shortly before redirecting my energy toward jumping off of her balcony.
In one swift and fluid movement, my feet found solid ground again. I regained my balance, leaning forward onto the heels of my hands. I slowly rose from my structured crouch before taking off through the woods again, distancing myself between the one I want, need, and can't have.
To my right another shadowed figure had fallen in step with me, running at my pace before stopping in front of me. My beta and best friend Pierce held his hand outstretched to halt my momentum.
"What was that all about?" Pierce questioned, a smirk stretched across his lips.
"It was nothing, just looking over your future Luna."
"My personal future Luna, or the entire pack's?" Pierce winked, turning his backside to me before strutting away.
"Do you understand how infuriating you are?"
"Of course I do, but you make it easy for me to get under your skin. I believe your soon-to-be mate will drive you even crazier, Gage. I'm a lightweight compared to her."
"How do you know anything about Adi? Oh, that's right, you don't! She's graceful, not irritating like yourself."
"Keep telling yourself that, lover boy."
With his final remarks, Pierce turned to dash through the woods, easily gaining a head start over me.
If my brain wasn't pulling all of my focus towards Adi, I would have caught up to him by now. Most likely, I would be hanging him from a tree by his belt buckle till he begged for mercy.
Instead of thinking violent, incoherent thoughts, I replaced them with the delicate dark brown eyes of the woman I intended to create a future with.
I glanced around, searching for something sharp. A dagger-like rock caught my attention, and I stalked over towards it to pick it up. I turned it delicately between my thumb and forefinger, letting it cast shadows on the ground beneath me from the little sliver of moonlight.
I spread the fingers of my left hand apart, settling the rock between my ring finger and my pinky finger. Slowly, I scripted the most elegant letter between my fingers, each rugged line leaving a trail of crimson between it. The sight made a warm shiver crawl from the base of my spine, and a smile spread across my face.
I threw the rock back to the dirt, kicking the toe of my shoe to the ground to cover it with wet leaves and dirt. I gazed back to my fingers, and let the warm smile spread across my face again. The most beautiful letter across my tanned skin.
"A, You will be mine," I whispered to myself, before flexing my legs muscles and breaking into a sprint to catch up to Pierce.
Specks of blood rolled down the front of my palm as I ran, and my smile grew bigger.
"Mine."
