"Did you know about this?" He yells in my face, making my eyes instantly well up with tears.
"No! I didn't feel that until you touched it. I swear."
He brought a hand up to gently brush the mark once more. As his fingertips grazed the surface, I winced at the pain that shot through my spine.
"The mark of a coward," Gage grumbled beside me. "He didn't even mark you where visible. He is ashamed of you."
I let tears fall from my eyes quietly as I turned to face Gage. His eyes were now a light electric blue, any hint of his brown eyes a distant memory.
"He disrespected our mate." A deep voice came from Gage's mouth, but it was not Gage.
I began to put the pieces together slowly. The blue eyes, the change of voice, Gage's wolf had fully ascended.
I whimpered and attempted to back away slowly. No wolf should ever be allowed to ascend to its full strength, especially when angry.
Gage's hand darted out to my forearm, grabbing it tightly and pulling me into his chest. He let his fingers tangle themselves in my hair and leaned his head down to mine, inhaling deeply.
"Adsila, I will not allow another man to disrespect you. You are my mate." The voice continued, earning a quiver from my nerves.
I was reluctant to step back and look at his face, but against my better judgment, I allowed my eyes to lock with his stare. When our eyes connected, it was as if his eyes had just been illuminated. He raised his eyebrows as his eyes changed to a nearly silver color.
To say I was scared is an understatement, I was terrified.
"Adsila, killing that man would kill you since you bear his mark. I will ensure that we find a way to fix this and remove his claim. That is my promise to you, my love."
He swooped down so that we were face to face, not allowing our eye contact to break. His lips neared mine as he stole a quick kiss, leaving me standing as still as possible.
"I cannot wait until Gage allows me to taste you. We have been waiting for you for so long."
He smiles, quickly kissing me once more, before retreating from my face. My eyes flew wide at his words and his actions. Gage and his wolf were definitely of the same mindset: bold and unashamed.
"Goodbye for now, my love." With that, Gage's blue eyes disappeared and returned to his normal black color.
He shook his head slightly, obviously uncomfortable with his loss of control.
"I couldn't see anything, so I apologize if he was too forceful toward you." I shook my head lightly in response.
"I could hear him, however, and he is right. We will remove the mark from you so that you'll be free from that coward. But until then, I need you to follow me. My warriors are going to devise a plan so that no harm comes to you during this process."
I felt the same invasive headache come on as a light whisper pushed itself into my thoughts.
"Don't go anywhere with him, Adi. We'll be there soon. He only wants to use you."
My head hurt from Elliott's prodding, my face providing an obvious display of torment. Gage wrapped his arms around my shoulders, leaving a kiss on my hair.
"Don't move, okay?" Gage says before touching the mark, not removing his touch as I began to cry out in pain. He tightened his grip around me to still my shaking body.
I could feel Gage in my head, but it felt as though he was not welcome. I could feel Elliott's presence as well. The strain of both men invading my space made my vision cloud with black spots.
"You disgusting failure of a man, you'll be put to death for attempting to force a mating with Adsila." Gages voice rumbled in my ears, but I knew he wasn't speaking out loud. He was using my bond to Elliott as a means of communication.
"She is rightfully mine, she wears my mark. Return her to me peacefully or I will take her forcefully."
Gage's body shook, leaving mine shaking as well. I knew I was about to faint from the influence of the two men in my thoughts.
"You won't last more than a minute in my world, pup." Gage spits.
"She lives as long as I live. Act wisely, Alpha."
I felt my world fall away, the weight of the day dissolving until I was drowning in nothingness.
Finally, some peace.
