-Gage-
"..So, you see, we are going to be in need of more warriors for your plan. We have a deficit of about.. are you even listening to me?" Pierce yelled, regaining my attention.
"Um, yeah of course. Deficits. 'gotcha." I spoke, staring back down at the scar between my fingers.
"Sure you are. Anyways, should we bring up some of the 16-year-old males to begin training? Or, we could invade another territory?"
"No, no more invasions. Not until your future Luna and I are mated, she must be protected."
"Well, if you want this security increase, we're going to need to 'borrow' warriors. I suggest you hurry it up with Miss Adi." He spoke slyly.
"Do not call her by her first name. She is your Luna, and only to be referred to as such." I spoke roughly, hoping to unsettle him. I could see a shiver run over his skin as I spoke, satisfying my wolf. We love to know we're in control.
"You are dismissed, Pierce."
"Yes, Alpha." He spoke, before bowing his head and exiting my office. The door shut loudly, sending a booming echo off the walls.
I glanced back to my laptop, where numerous emails from Adi's father remained opened and unanswered.
Most of them contained threats along the lines of burning my entire territory, k********g Adi, or sending Elliot to "reclaim" her; a bunch of empty and pathetic promises. I chose, against my better judgment, to finally respond to him.
"Don't stress yourself. She loves it here."
I feel bad for disrespecting the parents of my mate. In a normal world, I would be praising them for giving life to my other half, the missing piece my soul was searching for.
But I knew better. Her people were a disgrace. She was unknowingly surrounded by monsters. If Adi knew what they were going to do to her, she would be thanking me.
I breathe out a sigh of satisfaction, knowing that a certain weight was just lifted from my shoulders. I rose from my chair, leaving my desk to go find Adi.
After a few minutes of mindlessly opening doors and searching the living room, I found her in my room looking entranced as she watched a movie. She sat on my bed, silently gaping at the tv, with a bowl of popcorn between her legs. She sat with a look of horror, as Hannibal Lector appeared in front of the screen.
"This is a good one," I grumbled, to which she jumped in fright.
"You scared the s**t out of me!" She hissed, shoving another piece of popcorn into her mouth.
"Have you ever seen this movie before?" I questioned, knowing that she most likely hadn't.
"Yeah, I -um used to watch it all the time." She mumbled, releasing her eyes from my gaze and staring down at her fingernails.
"Oh yeah? What is it called then?"
"Um.. Cannibal?" She spoke, looking for hope in her answer.
I softly chuckled at her innocence, leaving her to blush intensely.
"How about The Silence of the Lambs," I spoke softly while sitting behind her.
"That's what I meant to say." She flicked a piece of hair off her shoulder and focused on the film.
I slowly put my hands on her hips, at which she let out a subtle shriek.
"What are you doing?" She whispered, obviously frightened.
I tightened my grip before pulling her towards me so that she was sitting on my lap and my arms were loosely wrapped around her.
I nestled my face into her neck before replying.
"I'm just getting comfortable," I whispered, placing a soft kiss below her ear.
She hummed in satisfaction before leaning into me, locking our position together.
"When are we leaving for the cabin?" She asks quietly, her desire for sleep evident in her tone.
"We are going to postpone until I figure out what to do about the pest at our borders." I tighten my grip around her waist before speaking again. "This man is going to push too hard and get himself killed. It will be one of my proudest moments knowing I protected my mate and our bond."
She winced at my words and became tense in my arms. It felt like her entire body froze, almost as if she was in shock. She nods lightly while keeping her eyes on the screen.
Did I scare her?
I bring a hand up to her hair, gently stroking the strands in an attempt to ease her stress.
"You don't know how badly I want to make you mine," I whisper into her ear. Again, she only nods.
I almost feel bad for our position now. She seems like she's uncomfortable being in my arms. I gently release myself from around her so I can move to the other side of the bed.
She lets out a sigh that sounded strange, almost like she was relieved?
"She hates us," My wolf says to me.
He is restless and nervous about being near her and not be able to hold what is ours. I shake my head, not wanting to speak to him right now. He's probably the reason she is scared of us.
I think back to earlier in the kitchen, recalling how her face paled as I spoke to Jace. I wasn't yelling at her, yet she felt fear. Why is she scared of me? All I want to do is devote my entire being to her existence. Her soul and mine were meant to be joined together until the Moon Goddess calls us home.
She made Adi just for me. What a sick joke, pairing an angel with a beast.
I glance over to her and see she has laid down on her stomach and her head resting on her arms. Her breathing is so low and quiet that I can tell she is nearly asleep.
Stalking over to her quietly, I scoop her into my arms, turning her upright.
Her eyes fly open, absolute panic evident on her face. I bring a hand to her face and she relaxes instantly.
Adi closes her eyes once again and settles against my chest, obviously finding comfort in my presence.
Dear Goddess, help us be good enough for each other.
