Mysterious Encounter

3 Milford, USA “Alright, ladies and gentlemen! Introducing the legendary jakes and shakes. Drumroll andddd music…” Sophia Winters jumped around in the beer bottle mascot costume, waving stickers and flyers in the faces of passersby. “Nick’s diner is a mix of contemporary and modern American cuisine, the perfect hangout spot for both the young and old,” she advertised, flashing charming smiles. “Here, please have this.” She felt her confidence and good spirits dwindling with each flier that hit the floor and got stomped on. People were mean, and they didn’t even care to hide it. “Just take a look at it before you fling it, please?” she said to the teenager who had just snatched the flier from her hand. “This is so f*****g frustrating,” she mumbled under her breath as she removed the head of the mascot costume. She was so thirsty, but the stupid costume wouldn’t even let her have a swig. She didn’t care what her maniacal boss said or did. She was done for the day. She was struggling to get out of the costume when her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and hissed. Think of the devil. She picked up the call on the fourth ring and placed it against her ear, pulling off the costume. “Sophia, where the hell are you?” the maniacal voice boomed into the speaker from the other end. It was safe to say that Sophia Winters hated her boss. For some reason, he reminded her of her foster parents. Her foster parents had been everything but parents to her, neglecting and abusing her every chance they got. Years later, that had been Sophia’s motivation to learn how to stand on her own two feet, and now her maniacal boss came along, reminding her why she needed that independence in every aspect of her life. She needed her diner. “Uh, did you already forget you sent me out to advertise your diner?” Sophia asked, biting back the sharp words that had formed already in her mind “It’s been two hours, Sophia! I said you had one hour, tops, and you’re back here.” “But you also told me to make sure I finished distributing these fliers. So, you see, I’m in a bit of a bind here.” The caller hissed loudly from the other end. “Just get back here, Sophia. I’m giving you just ten minutes.” “But I haven’t- “ “The fliers can wait,” the voice interrupted. “There’s a very important guest I’d like you to pick up from the airport. So hurry back.” The line went dead and Sophia sighed, rolling her eyes. Her boss got on her nerves more than anyone. She was just about to remove the phone from her ear when she felt a rough hand quickly brush against her ear. And her phone was gone. In the blink of an eye. She whirled around to see the flying heels of a young man, and her phone being pocketed in his pants. Not giving it a second thought, she flung the head of the mascot costume and picked up a race after the thief. “Hey, stop! Motherfucker!” she screamed as she dashed after him. The thief didn’t stop. He was fast, but Sophia didn’t panic or worry about that. She was faster. “Sorry, excuse me, sorry,” she apologized as she bumped into a few people on the way, signaling to a few others to make way while she gave the thief a hot chase. She was almost gaining on him when he suddenly picked up speed. “Son of a b***h!” Sophia cried as she increased her speed, even more determined to catch him. Her real panic lay in the fact that her boss had given her just ten minutes to be back at the diner. And here she was, chasing the thief that had her phone. But she couldn’t leave her phone. The thief took a sharp turn around a small corner, and Sophia equally diverted through an alleyway. She was very familiar with the town, so she knew a thousand ways she could get to this thief. He couldn’t escape her. Just as she’d calculated, she caught up to him just as she burst out of the alley. “Got you!” she smirked, lunging for him. She threw her entire weight on him, and they hit the floor, rolling in the sand. A scuffle ensued between them as Sophia tried to unmask the thief, and he struggled to keep his mask on. “Just…fucking stay still, son of a b***h,” she cursed as she got on top of him. It was very obvious that this thief was not only a thief but a weak man too. In a few nanoseconds, she snatched the mask away from his face, and she gasped. What the-? ~~~ “Fasten your seatbelt, sir. We’re about to take off.” Michael’s eyes fluttered open and focused on a round pretty face looking down at him, a huge smile splayed across her lips. “Hmph, okay,” he replied, sitting up and taking his seatbelt across his torso. Then he noticed the hostess still standing there. “Can I get you anything? Coffee? Juice? Water? Dessert?” she asked, smiling down at him. “Oh no, no. Thank you,” Michael replied in dismissal. Then she leaned forward, taking him by surprise. “In case there’s anything you need, anything at all,” she drawled in a whisper, close to his ear, “don’t fail to let me know.” She leaned up as Michael stared up at her, a perfectly carved brow raised cockily. “I know you want to give me anything I want, but I’m taken,” he replied with a cocky smile on his lips. She walked away with a knowing smile on her lips, and Michael leaned against his seat, sighing. He was getting tired of the open advances women made towards him. Even when some of them knew that he was nuptially tied...and knew his dear wife. At the thought of Jane, he sat up straighter in the seat. He was worried about her and her ailing health. He blinked, still feeling a bit groggy. He needed to stay awake and think of the best way to grant his wife’s dying wish. “Five minutes to take off,” an air hostess’s voice filtered through the speakers. Michael stood and made his way to the convenience of the business class, swooning at the doorway. “Mr. Steele, are you okay?” The hostess, who had been on his neck about wanting anything, asked, quickly moving forward to put a hand on his shoulder to steady him. “Yes, I’m fine. Thank you,” Michael replied, offering her a weak smile. But he wasn’t. His dear wife could leave him all alone at any moment.
