Natasha POV
Nibbling her lip, She launched herself into his arms flushing as she teasingly stroke his chest.
He giggled and pleaded to her, taking the blame on himself.
Nonetheless, he tactfully turned his gaze, watching to see how I would react to what they were doing.
But when he saw that I wasn’t showing any sign of being provoked, I could sense that the discomfort he had felt back in the hospital room returned to his chest, feeling oppressive in a very strange way.
“Natasha...!” He blurted. “All your attention has been on that phone of yours since you entered the car.”
His tone was laced with envy. “Are you messaging your cousin? Or someone I’ve never met?”
Unknown to him, I’d just completed my plane ticket booking process, and without hesitating, I entered my password to lock the screen of my phone.
“Catching up on articles.” I muttered back, wearing a slight, fake smile.
Instead of feeling at ease, my words clouded his face.
Taking me by surprise, he dragged the phone. “Tell me the password?” He ordered.
“The password to my phone is my ‘milestone’ “ I told him.
We’d been married for long time now. Despite the fact that I had a simple, few-digit password that’s easy to remember, he was still unable to open my phone until it locked itself because of too many wrong trials.
We continued the drive back home in silence.
Just as we arrived home, Lorenzo stepped out of the car and tenderly helped Mira out—the girl was feeling dizzy because of her pregnant state, and then she was taken to the owner’s chamber.
Then he directed the maid to cook all her beloved delicacies.
I was heading to the visiting room sadly when Lorenzo walked downstairs. And, seeing me this way, he stood puzzled.
Musing for a short while, he told the maid, ‘’I’d you to also, prepare Natasha’s loved delicacies. Tonight, the table will be for three."
As I walked into the visiting room, I zipped open my suitcase, only to find my clothes completely torn apart.
I knew I’d kept my passport right inside my suitcase so I searched for it. Luckily, the passport and my vital documents that I’d buried inside were untouched.
For a while I arranged everything and was about to leave when I found Mira standing at the door.
She was holding a container with liquid inside, but I couldn’t tell if it was water or something else. Then she looked at me from head to toe in a mocking way.
“I’m impressed, Natasha. I can see that you’ve got guts,” she said with a hint of disdain.
Then she took two steps closer to me. ‘’Despite the fact that I’m able to appear without notice here and even made you an object of ridicule of the highest order, you’re blatantly forcing yourself into Lorenzo’s family like a leech.”
“Oh before I forget, your granny died a month ago, isn’t it?” She asked coldly.
I decided to listen to all she has to say.
“Seeing that the apple of your eye is gone, I can see that there’s no one else for you to depend on. You should obviously hold onto Lorenzo like he’s your only hope.”
I could sense that she’d recalled something, seeing the way she was laughing as she held out her phone screen close to my face.
“Anyway, I don’t know if you can still recall the day you pleaded with Lorenzo to help you fly his helicopter so you could go to the hospital to see your dying grandmother one last chance to see?” She asked.
“Do you want to know the reason why he refused to take you there?” She paused and continued, “that’s because he wanted to take me to the ocean side so we could enjoy nature together. Look, here’s a photo of us affectionately kissing that day.” She said with a mischievous grin on her face.
I couldn’t stand this anymore, so I pushed the phone out of her hand and furiously grabbed her hair. Instantly, the container she was holding fell to the ground, and I could smell the odor of gasoline filling the entire room.
In the bedlam, she quickly pulled out a lighter from her pocket and lit the gasoline that had spilled on the ground.
Billowing smoke filled the room, and suddenly flames burst forth forcefully as the fire alarm began blaring.
Since I had just been released from the hospital, I fell to the ground, unable to withstand the effects, as my entire body felt heavy and I was losing strength.
Amidst the confusion, I heard Lorenzo calling out to me. “Natasha!”
Then I heard the butlers attempting to stop him.
“You don’t need to go into that place; it’s not safe. The firefighters are on their way, just be patient.”
“For the love of God, Natasha is inside that room! Get the hell out of the way!” he commanded them.
Despite how they tried stopping him, he rushed into the fire and to his weirdest surprise, he found Mira.
“Honey please… help me…”
He didn’t even allowed her complete the words when he lifted her into his arms and carried her out without bothering about me. Without a second thought, he made his leave.
A few minutes passed.
After saving her, he searched the house for me but didn’t find me. Immediately I saw him leaving, I knew it was actually time to escape.
At the airport... that same night.
As soon as the package was sent, I boarded a flight to Philadelphia, wheezing as I made my way to my seat. Just as the plane took off, a text message popped on my phone screen. It was from Lorenzo.
Typed clearly on the screen was the text:
I don’t have time for games... just come back home.
