Chapter 9The barbecue ended up being a blast. My family, all of them, made it. Ruben and Margo, Damian and Arthur, and Pam. She brought a pastry chef she was seeing that she’d met through the bakery. On Sidney’s side, Jerry and Lilly came. I’d invited a couple of the guys from the band but they had other plans. Rob told me when he turned down the barbecue that the owner of the bar where we’d played wanted us to come back the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Sidney decided we’d go simple for our first social event at the house together, so we grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. Pam brought pastries from the bakery for dessert.
