Chapter Fourteen

It’s been so strange the past week having no work, we’re still getting paid, some of us are continuing our sessions online. I occasionally get a message from Hannah and a few of my other clients, they all seem to be doing well, I’ve not heard anything from Erin. It’s now Saturday morning and I decided I would attend Marea’s and Erin’s party, I want to have fun, this whole week I’ve been watching movies, cleaning and singing. Yesterday was fun though, I went shopping with Michelle and we decided what we would wear come tonight. She convinced me to go in the end, Michelle will be wearing a white flapper girl dress, it comes just above the knees and it looks quite feathery. She’s going to wear matching white gloves, a white headband, feather and golden heels that are open at the front. For tonight I decided I would wear a silver style dress, similar to what Daisy wears in ‘The Great Gatsby’ film. It’s an off the shoulder and sleeveless dress, it has a silk ribbon around the waist with a light pink flower. The bottom of the dress has white tulle that is purposely exposed for effect. I bought a fake pearl neckless that wraps around the neck three times, with big matching earrings. I’m wearing white high heeled shoes to go with my outfit and a white ribbon to keep my curls pushed back. I apply my dark crimson lipstick as always and wear minimal make up. When I arrive in the driveway I’m shocked at what I see. The doors are wide open, and people are pulling in everywhere blasting old fashioned 1920’s music from their cars. Some of the cars here tonight are actually 1920 themed, people have really gone all out, but that can’t be said without addressing all the effort in front of me. The garden is lit up with many fairy lights decoratively arranged perfectly around the hedges, water fountains and trees. There are golden tables filled with sparkling alcohols of varied colours places around the gardens. I’m walking around the gardens where there are many people swarmed, they are laughing and drinking, some faces are familiar some new to this scene. Both the back doors and the front door to the house are wide open and there are many people swarming inside them. The music is booming loudly from the open house, every window is ablaze with light, I see various people in the rooms partying and shouting. The house seems full to the brim, I finally head inside. I’ve never seen the house so bright, it’s almost blinding, the chandelier is fully lit, and the light illuminates everything gold and silver in the room. I see rows of golden posh tables filled with every dish imaginable, golden roasted chickens, salads, roasted potatoes, golden sponges filled with edible golden and silver beads there was so much food my eyes couldn’t keep track of it all. People are dancing madly on the dance floor high off of being in this place. I see swarms of glittery turquoises, blues, sun yellows, whites, pinks, blacks etc. I don’t see Marea or Erin anywhere, and their thrones had been removed on the top floor. Instead there was a table and a few chairs in its place pushed a little towards the alcove of the balcony. Heading down the stairs to the dance floor, I’m engulfed by people wanting to talk to me and dance with me.. I try to look for a familiar face, but I don’t see one, not even Michelle. “It’s you enchantress girl.” “You look fabulous as always dear.” “Thank you..” “Care to dance?” “Dance with me girl-.” “I uh, no thanks.” “But-“ “Ouu where did you get that dress from?” “Do you know who Erin is?” “Everybody know Erin.” “I believe he’s Gatsby.” “What Gatsby?” They all burst out laughing… I feel my heart racing and being surrounded by all these people are making me panic. I’m surrounded I just close my eyes I can’t take the music and all the voices, until I feel someone hug me and spin me around in their arms. “Oh, there you are Lisa, I was looking everywhere for you.” Everybody clears away. I open my eyes and see a gold pair look straight into mine. “Kieran.” I say smiling, I wrap my arms around his neck a little tighter. “Thank you for coming to my rescue.” “I’m glad I could come to your rescue.” He says with a laugh, it makes me laugh. His smile is beautiful, it makes me beam. The beat picks up from the music and we start dancing together, he swings me around so easily as I hold onto his neck. We flow so perfectly together on the dance floor; he wears an open neck chalky blue shirt and black trousers. His black shoes glisten in the bright lights. “Kieran?” “Yea.” “Your eyes? Are you wearing contact lenses?” “No, I had my natural eye colour changed to gold.” “It’s quite fitting.” “Are your eyes real?” I feel my eyebrow furrow “What? What do you mean?” “Your eyes seem to beautiful to be real, you seem unnatural like supernatural.” I tried not to blush, but I start smiling and my cheeks warm up. “You really know how to make me feel good.” “You make me feel good when I’m around you.” “It feel like I’ve always known you although this is the second time we’ve met.” “I feel the same, but maybe that’s because our friends relate to us in a way which allows us to feel the same.” I smile at him again and he smiles back at me, I didn’t realise how close we were, but our foreheads were touching. 3rd narration: Erin has been secluded in his art room at the very top of the house, he locks the door as he leaves and counts the number of doors he’s locked tonight. He needs to make sure some rooms are off restrictions to the guests. He walks past a hallway mirror, his hair is slick back, two stray wisps of hair hangs down the sides of his forehead. He wears a tuxedo but takes off the jacket and unbuttons a few of the buttons. He runs his hands through his hair to keep it pushed back; he rolls up his sleeves revealing his tattoos on both his arms. He heads to the landing and peers down at his guests who are dancing, he sees Michelle in her white feathery dress laughing with Marea by a drink stand. But what he sees captures his full attention. Kieran dances and holds a girl so close to him it looks as though they want to kiss each other. Her hair is pushed back and flows down her back, he looks at the many spirals and curls. She looks beautiful in white; she looks so happy; her smile is bright and wide. Her eyes are closed but Kieran’s eyes are wide open looking at her as though he owns each moment with her. Erin pushes off of the banister and heads down the stairs, the music begins to shift and change. Anna dances up to him wrapping her arms around his neck and smiling at him. She’s dressed in a red short dress that clings to her figure. “I’ve come as your perfect Dais-“ He pushes forward unaware of her presence at all, his eyes fixed on them. Her hands falls off of him and she watches what he looks at, she takes a slow inhale shaking with fury and clenches her jaw. Michelle and Marea turn around to the fast change of music, they notice Kieran and Lisa holding each other closely. “Ouu, well look at that, he was serious about getting to know her after all.” Marea says to Michelle, watching Kieran and Lisa. “Can you blame him though?” Michelle says looking at Erin and Anna by the stairs. Marea and Michelle watch Erin head towards Kieran and Lisa’s direction. “I knew he’d act like this.” “So, did I…” “She’s strong but I wonder if she’s strong enough to avoid the attention he’s going to give her.” “What do you mean?” Michelle asks excitedly “You’ll see.” Erin’s walks slowly behind Lisa and pauses. Kieran notices him and lifts his eyes to meet Erin’s, Lisa slowly turns her head towards her shoulder, but she still holds onto Kieran. Erin’s eyes lids drop and flick up slowly at her. “May I have this dance?” He asks smoothly with a small edge of frustration in his voice, anyone would have ,missed it but Lisa didn’t. Lisa POV: I look at the way he stares at me, he looks so different with his hair slicked back like that. He looks perfect as always. But then I see images of him and Anna and that Asian girl… I lower my eyes, then look him in the eyes. “What about Anna?” “What about Anna?” He asks softly. “I’m sure she’d love to dance with you tonight.” I see Anna standing on her own at the back of the room, she’s got her arms crossed and she’s frowning at us, she looks like a dying ember. I feel Kieran bend in towards my ear, I know he’s about to tell me I can dance with Erin if I want. “Besides, I’m enjoying my time with Kieran.” I say sliding my face into his, I look into his deep golden eyes. Erin just nods, but stares Kieran in the face with no expression but his eyes burn with something… Envy… I look over to wear Michelle and Marea stands watching us. Michelle has sucked her lips in, and she looks at me with wide eyes. Marea is just transfixed on us all. I look at Erin, his eyes switch back to mine and I turn my head from him. I continue dancing with Kieran, I can tell he was happy with my decision to stay with him. But Erin, his energy feels strangely hot instead of its usual cool. “I thought you two were quite close?” “Close in what way exactly? We’re just friends, in fact he’s another client of mine.” “Oh right, Marea told me something like that not long ago, I don’t think he’s ever been rejected a dance like that. He looked really surprised.” “Not my problem.” “Is there an issue between you two?” “Women is his issue but not mine, I’d rather stay out of it.” “Yeah I get it, you don’t need to explain anything to me Lisa. But refusing a dance from a host well.” He raises one of his dark eyebrows at me and leans in with his dashing smile. “Thanks Kieran. He’s not the only host who wants to dance with me tonight, “I look over to Marea and she winks at me, I smile at her and wink back. The beat picks up to the music and we start laughing and spinning madly around together.   After about an hour of dancing Michelle comes over to me and Kieran and starts talking about the characters form Gatsby. They both get a long really well, I leave them to get a drink, I try to ignore Erin’s eyes that has been on me the whole time. He sits on a cream sofa with his arms spread out, three women cuddle up to him and laugh and talk. He stares at my eyes; I see his face and I feel like everything is erased. But I turn my head from his and keep heading towards the table. I look down at my shoes so that I don’t turn to look back at him with all those women, I lift my head and see him standing in front of me. He looks fixated on me, he seems intrigued, I feel my heart leap, he comes closer to my face. “Want a drink Lisa?” Marea holds a drink out to me, her head slightly turns to Erin’s direction he straightens. I take the drink and down it in one go. Marea screams ”ouu “and claps her hands together. “Thank you Marea.” I say gliding towards her, my tone was so flirtatious! I hadn’t meant for it to be. Marea raises an eyebrow and turns her head towards me with intrigue her eyes look me up and down with hunger. “Anna, dance with me will you? I’m bored of all the women here.” He says it looking me straight into my eyes. “Well I’m about to dance with just about the most exciting women ever come on Lisa you’re finally all mine.” Marea takes me by the hand placing it on the back of her shoulder and leading me away from them. I watch Anna as she walks up to Erin with smile but her eyes glare at me. I just beam in their faces and give Marea one of my warmest smiles. She smiles looking me up and down delighted, we swing each other around to the music. Both our hairs glide in the air, Marea is dressed in a golden cream dress that flares with each movement, the dress is low cut and has thin straps. Kieran dances with Michelle, Michelle swings her hips side to side with her looking down as Kieran holds her wrists in the air above their heads and sways to beat. Marea lifts her hands in the air clicking and swaying her head to the music, I sway my hips along to the music smiling and feeling the moment. In the dark corners of the room I will sometimes see Erin snogging someone. If it weren’t Anna it would be some other blonde girl. “Looks like someone’s living their Gatsby dream.” “Don’t look at them, just look at me.” She says it so seductively I feel my eyes widen a little. I laugh, Marea smiles she offers me her hand . “Follow me.”  I take her hand and she guides me up the stairs to the outside balcony. She leans on the stone balcony; a few people are behind us are taking photos. Marea leans her back against the balcony slouching slightly. “You know I’m actually impressed.” “Yeah? By who?” “You. I’m so glad you haven’t given him the chance to break your heart or use you.” “Oh, you mean Erin, love is nothing without trust.” “Love is like a potion it brews many things, love, trust, passion and most importantly acceptance.” “That’s true, Marea have you ever been in love?” “Hasn’t everybody thought they’ve been in love?” “Yeah I suppose you’re right.” “Let me tell you what I think about love. I think that true love only happens once.”   “That’s interesting. Erin pursues so much women I wonder if he’s in search of love?” “It’s not for love that’s for sure, I reckon it’s to be caught up in the moment of something new. It’s like a drug, wanting someone to feel your attraction and the newness of it is like nothing else. Why do you think so many people love the beginning of the relationship? It’s like experiencing multiple honeymoon periods and still feeling desirable.” “I see when you put it that way it makes a lot of sense. It makes sense why I’d see boy go through girls like water and vice versa.” Marea turns her head to me lightly. “I bet even you’ve experienced it yourself.” “Well I have been through the honeymoon phase of relationships before, but I’ve never gone seeking it like that.” “I have, it’s fun. Until they fall hopelessly in love you.” “Love can be very scary, it’s like being in a dark blue warm ocean of a night surrounded by stars and hope but knowing you can drown at any second because eventually your body grow tired.” Marea’s eyes widen a little “Oh wow,  never thought of it like that.” “Scary, yeah I know, love is like that in my opinion.”   “I was gonna say scary yeah, but it sounds more poetic than anything.” Marea throws her head and starts laughing. I watch her as she swings backwards dangling off of the balcony , her hair glides behind her as she laughs at me. The sight is so funny, I’m feeling slightly drunk and I close my eyes to the music.   Me and Marea decide to join the rest of the people who are dancing on the dance floor. Even the musicians for tonight are dressed in the 1920s style, the place looks so beautiful. I’m staring at the big ceiling not looking where I’m going, I  just assume that Marea is in front of me. Wow they must have paid so much for all of this. Everyone is dancing with someone Marea is dancing with a petite woman that has dark short hair, Kieran is no where to be seen and surprisingly Erin and Michelle dances together. I catch Erin’s eyes and he catches my surprise; he smirks at me lifting his chin slightly as he holds Michelle close to him, her eyes are closed as she sways close to his body. I hear the beat picking up and soon as it drops I let go of everything. Every emotion I have gets flung out with every movement I just close my eyes and swing to the music. I didn’t care anymore, I wasn’t gonna act jealous or possessive I’d rather just go into my own happiness. Every movement felt freeing and when I lifted in the air I felt my dress glide and swing around me along with my hair. I felt a strange static and buzzing energy all around me and when I’d open my eyes I’d see people were mimicking my dance moves, some were watching. I jumped swinging myself through the air, as I felt my hair lift up as well as my dress I opened the corner of my eyes and watched Erin’s icy blue eyes on me. The lights flickered whilst I was in mid-air, it happened so fast one-minute Erin was by Michelle and the flicker of light happened and I was caught in his hands. “You’re mine.” He whispers in my ear.
