Chapter 15 Ashley split his attention between the road and the rearview mirror. He couldn’t stop looking at her car, couldn’t stop checking to make sure she was still behind him. Once or twice, a car slipped between them, and he was tempted to pull over just to make sure she didn’t lose him. His fingers tapped a ragged tattoo against the steering wheel, and his heart seemed to be lodged in his throat. He hadn’t been nervous about a woman in years—maybe not since he was a kid. But he did feel nervous about Jenny. Maybe she would change her mind? Maybe she would simply turn around and drive the opposite direction and that’d be the end of it. But she didn’t turn around, and something in his chest shifted. He understood she wasn’t going to drive off, run away, or try to talk him out of it.
