Two work parties in one week was not Jenny’s idea of a good time. The advantage to this engagement, though, was that it was far more intimate—only fifteen to twenty people in total, Bryan said—and it was over dinner. That meant she could busy herself eating if she floundered in the conversations. She couldn’t mess up if her mouth was full.
She tried not to fidget as the butler took her purse and coat. Bryan had assured her that her red dress was more than adequate for a dinner party, even if it was in the hills, but without her jacket’s protection, Jenny felt a tad exposed.
