Chapter 9 The short ride from lunch to his apartment was silent by necessity. After giving her the shortest directions possible, Ashley didn’t trust himself to speak to her without inviting—no, insisting that she come upstairs with him. Ashley wasn’t known for his self-control, or his nobility, or appreciating delayed gratification, and the last hour spent with Jenny had sorely tested him. He couldn’t even look at her while she drove. He hoped she wouldn’t misunderstand and think he was ignoring her, or giving her the cold shoulder—except a part of him believed it would be for the best if she suddenly assumed he wasn’t interested in her.
