Nathan’s POV
I was taken aback as Abel vehemently denied the baby's paternity. Initially, I was perplexed, thinking there must be some misunderstanding that needed to be addressed.
"Hey, calm down, remember your health," I said, trying to reason with him. "You shouldn't be drinking like this. It's not good for your heart. Let me have that vodka."
I tried to take the drink from him, but he snarled at me.
"Give it back and leave me the heck alone! What's the point of living anyway? She has destroyed everything we had. I'm better off dead." His words were laced with anguish, and tears brimmed in his eyes.
I tried to empathize with his pain, but his despair was palpable, and his words sent a chill down my spine. I realized the matter was serious. But I can't stop wondering who among them was making the mistake. I tried to calm him down.
“Damn it man, I can't believe this is happening. I think there is a mistake somewhere. If Lyn insisted that the baby she is carrying is yours, then it's yours”. I tried to reason with him yet again.
To my astonishment, Abel erupted into laughter, but it was clear he was already intoxicated. I knew I had to get him home before the paparazzi caught wind of his state.
"Come on, Abel, let's get you home. Your parents are worried about you," I urged.
"No, no way. Just give me my drink back. I need to numb this pain. It's killing me, please." He refused as tears streamed down his face. He buried his head in his hands on the table. I grew more perplexed by his behavior, unsure of which way to help him get rid of his distress. I raised my voice at him.
“Abel, you need to get your ass together, there must be a mistake somewhere. Maybe you got drunk somewhere with her and it happened. Maybe you didn't remember. Just think this over, maybe… “.
“Stop it, man, there is no maybe okay. I told you I have never touched her. I had never gotten dirty drunk around her. Even that day we secretly got married at the registry nothing happened at the hotel. It was the night of that same day that my surgery was booked urgently. I have never touched her. Just give me the damn vodka”.
He snatched it again, and I let him gulp down some before I spoke in my confusion.
“Man you sounded very convincing but if it's not yours why would Lyn be so bold to tell your dad that it was yours?”.
“What did you say? He asked me in surprise. “She told my dad that I got her pregnant?”.
I nodded my head, “Yes Abel, Abigail took her to the hospital and she nearly miscarried the baby. That's how your dad found out about it. She told your dad that you are angry with her because of the baby”.
In anger, Abel flared up, “I can't believe the same Lyn I know is the one doing this. Why didn't she tell the truth? Why did she have to lie to my dad? She told me that she made out with someone in the elevator. That is how she got pregnant. As I entered my car in anger to get away from her, she said that she did it for me”.
He shook his head in disbelief and continued.
“Can you imagine that? Why in the world will she go out there and get pregnant for me? Did I ever tell her that I am impotent? She must be out of her mind to even think that I will forgive and forget this betrayal”.
The twists and turns were driving me crazy. I was stunned, my mind reeling from the shocking revelation. In my confusion, I snatched the vodka from Abel's hand and took a swig myself.
"Damn it, this is insane! Is this the same Lyn I thought I knew?" I exclaimed, still trying to wrap my head around the situation.
Just then, we saw Teddy headed toward us. His presence was the last thing I needed given the long-standing animosity between him and Abel. Abel had always suspected that Teddy had feelings for Lyn and that had driven a wedge between them. As Teddy drew near, Abel's expression darkened, and he let out a venomous hiss.
“Why the heck is he heading this way?”. Directing the question to no one in particular as he gulped down more of the vodka.
As Teddy approached our table, he halted, his eyes blazing with indignation.
"Finally, I've found you. How could you treat her so callously? She nearly lost the baby due to the violent push you gave her. She has been crying, waiting for you to come to your senses but you are here indulging in vodka!"
Abel's face reddened with rage. "Get out of my sight! Who are you to lecture me about something you know nothing about? Go, comfort her, and then pretend you never saw me."
"This is unbelievable”. Teddy's expression mixed with anger and disbelief as he confronted Abel. I'm deeply disappointed in you. What is wrong with you? I mean, what kind of a man are you? Now you listen to me, you need to get the heck up from here and go straight to the hospital and talk to Lyn. She needs you now more than ever."
Abel's response was laced with venom as he replied to Teddy.
"I said, don't pretend to know what you don't! You are part of this scheme, aren't you? Well, sorry to disappoint you, but your plan has backfired. Now, get out of my sight!"
I saw the irate look in Teddy’s eyes as he said, “If I knew you would turn out to be such a d**k I would have fought for her love. I let her be because I thought you loved her but I was wrong. How dare you hurt her. She is your wife for goodness sake. She did not deserve such a treatment from…. “.
Teddy didn't finish the next sentence when Abel threw a hard punch at his jaw as he barked.
“How dare you think about my wife. You know nothing about how I feel. Didn't I tell you to get the heck out of here”. He threw another one and got Teddy’s mouth bleeding.
In anger, Teddy threw a punch back at Abel and the two of them started fighting, throwing hard punches at each other causing a ruckus in the bar.
Teddy's boldness in confronting Abel was unexpected, He wouldn't have been a match for him but the alcohol and stress had weakened Abel. It made him more vulnerable. I watched in astonishment as the two men clashed, their animosity palpable. My friend, who had once rejected Lyn due to her betrayal, was now fighting fiercely over her.
Meanwhile, Teddy's anger towards Abel was rooted in his perceived neglect of Lyn's well-being. The tension between them was tangible. It made me wonder if they were entangled in a complicated love triangle. On my trial to separate them, they shoved me hard, sending me stumbling into tables and chairs before I fell. From the floor, I grunted.
“Damn it, guys get hold of yourselves”.
Within that moment security guys had gathered and separated them with each of them having a bleeding nose and mouth. Abel kept shouting at the top of his voice.
“Take that madman out of this place before I commit murder”.
Teddy in return was barking, “If you are not man enough to treat her right, then apply for a divorce. I am warning you for the last time, go and see her, or else you will regret it”.
He kept shouting until he was taken out of the bar. Abel in response was barking after him.
“Don't tell me how to treat my wife and tell her that I will never give her a divorce. So you will never have her. Do you hear me, you pervert, never”.
Abel's anger still seethed as a security guard approached, instructing him to leave the premises as well. Abel flared up again,
"Were you blind earlier? Didn't you see that arrogant fool started this whole thing? Can't you give a man a break?"
The security guard firmly replied, "It's our policy, sir. We can't risk your anger escalating into something more serious."
In that instance, I intervened, recognizing the wisdom in his words, especially since onlookers were already recording the scene. I apologized on Abel's behalf and persuaded him, "Let's leave peacefully, it's for the best."
Instantly, he stood up and barked again.
“Peacefully my ass, there is no peace. I am feeling only betrayal all over me. I hate that son of a b***h. I suspect that he was responsible for that. Even if he is the father I will never sign any divorce paper”.
With that, he stood up and we left. I refused to let him drive as I took his wheel and took him home.
On entering their parking lot, his father was walking to and fro. As Abel stepped out, he barked in anger.
“Abel, what is all this nonsense I am hearing? So your madness has gotten to picking a fight?”
