I wiped the back of my hand against the material of my shorts, trying to eradicate the tingly sensation of his lips meeting my skin. Only I could meet the random weirdo in the middle of an empty forest, typical!
Whatever was crashing the trees and undergrowth behind me was getting closer and I started to move away not wanting to bump into whatever was making that noise. Just as I was about to leave though, a beautiful large grey wolf sped past me, it was so close I swore I felt it’s fur brush against my skin. I gasped and let out an uncharacteristic girly squeal of excitement. Finally! I got to see one of the wolves that I kept hearing howl during the night. That more than made up for all the crap I had dealt with today. I suppose I should have been a little more scared really, they were predators after all, but he had shot past so fast, it was like he didn’t even notice me. It looked like he was chasing something and the speed he was going I was fairly sure he would get it.
I knew he was there before he even said anything, I would recognise that scent anywhere. It was like he had mixed all the best scents of the outdoors and created something unique and delicious.
“What the hell are you doing here!” Caleb yelled.
Oh oh. He sounded angry, livid actually, but I was still too excited to be bothered by it.
“Did you see it!” I called back to him, still peering ahead in the hopes the wolf would come back.
He grabbed hold of my arm, spinning me round to face him. “I said, what are you doing here?”
“Shhh, it might come back, turn your voice down.” I shushed him, trying to turn back around to look for the wolf but he still had firm hold of me.
“What are you on about?” he said in a half whisper.
Awww he could do as he was told then. I smirked to myself imagining saying that out loud to him, probably get a spanking for that. He did seem the corporal punishment type. My body heated at the thought, and I flushed pink. Where the hell had that thought come from? This man was making me think and react to some pretty strange and out of character things!
“What are you smiling about?” He said raising his voice again, “Do you not know how dangerous it is out here for you?”
“Shhh” I shushed him again.
“I swear to the Goddess herself if you shush me one more time...!” He growled in frustration.
I stopped trying to turn away, curious now. “Goddess?” I asked. “You didn’t strike me as pagan.”
“Perhaps you shouldn’t be so quick to judge me,” he said raising those dark eyebrows, his full lips quirking up into a small smile before he looked serious again. “That includes Bradley too. He’s not as bad a person as you seem to think.”
I frowned at that, he hadn’t been so great with me recently, had he?
That’s when I actually looked at Caleb properly and my mouth went dry, pulse rate rocketing through the roof. Oh. My. Goodness!
“Uhm Caleb?” I stuttered, placing a hand over my eyes in an attempt to protect my innocence.
“Yes Eloise?” I could actually hear the smile in his voice without even having to look.
“Where are your clothes?” I whispered, my voice coming across far too huskily for my liking.
“I didn’t take you for such a prude, Eloise.”
“Now whose being judgmental?”
He laughed. “Gimme a sec.”
He let go of my arm, and I watched him walk towards a tree through the gaps of my fingers, stark bollock naked! He bent down and I squeezed my eyes tightly shut as he went to grab a bag from the behind a tree.
Barely 20 seconds later, he gently pried my hand away from my face. “You can open your eyes now.” He laughed. “It’s safe to look.”
I squinted at him, not fully convinced he was telling the truth. I caught a glimpse of his smooth milky coffee coloured skin, dripping with the rain water that was still pouring down. His toned well defined abs were still on display but he had pulled on a pair of loose dark grey sweat pants. I could see the tattoo on his upper arm clearly now, it looked to be an intricate Celtic pattern, it featured the sun, moon and a wolf, with a tree of life interlinking them all. It was beautiful, like him. I let out the breath I didn’t realise I had been holding. Not sure if I was relieved or disappointed that he had found some clothes.
“I can’t believe that the first real life p***s I’ve ever seen was in the middle of the forest in the rain and attached to you!” I grumbled.
He looked irrationally pleased by my comment, holding his hand against his heart and feigning sincerity. “I’m truly honoured.” He said before laughing, those dimples showing up yet again and giving him a youthful boyish look.
“Do you know how unbelievably creepy you could come across to people if they caught you wandering naked outdoors?” I accused, narrowing my eyes at him.
“It’s my land.” He said simply. “They shouldn’t be here to see.”
“Oh.” I wasn’t sure what to say to that. “Still it’s a bit weird.”
“So...?” He asked.
“Hmm?”
“What are you doing here?” He said slowly as if he was talking to someone that was struggling to understand.
“Escaping my stalker.” I said in a conspiratorial whisper.
“You mean Bradley?”
“Yep. If you want to spy on me you probably shouldn’t have pick someone that’s made my life hell for the past year to do it.”
“I’m not spying on you.” He sighed.
“How did you get here so quickly anyway?” I asked. “You were at school at the same time as me.”
“I’m a fast runner...”
“You like to run naked?” I quizzed him.
He gave me a wolfish grin. “Sometimes.” He paused briefly. “I set off shortly after you left the office then Bradley contacted me saying you climbed out of the bathroom window.”
I let out a snort of laughter and he looked at me sternly.
I stayed silent then and looked into the trees behind me again, turning myself around so my back was to him.
“I don’t think it’s coming back.” I mused changing the subject, I was genuinely disappointed the wolf had gone past so quickly and was unable to disguise it in my voice.
He sighed with frustration, “Whats not coming back?”
“The wolf! Did you not see it? It ran past just before you got here.” I sighed. “You must have scared it off, running around naked!”
“Maybe I did.” He said, laughing to himself as if I had said something truly hilarious to him. “It certainly seemed to upset you!”
I narrowed my eyes at him making him laugh more.
“What’s so funny?” I asked. “It was so beautiful, I would love to have been able to pet it. The wolf I mean. Not naked you.”
He laughed even harder at that, clutching at his middle, beautiful grey eyes tearing up as if I had just said the most amusing thing in the world.
“What!?” I demanded.
“I’m not sure petting a wild wolf would be wise.” He said swiping tears from his eyes, he had been laughing that hard.
I glared at him, making him start laughing again.
“You’re adorable.” He said.
“Piss off..” I grumbled. “I can’t believe I was actually intimidated by you at school earlier. Your not as scary as everyone makes out.”
His expression changed suddenly as if a switch had been clicked. His eyes went dark, face serious, he loomed above me, highlighting the size difference immediately. “Oh but I can be, Eloise.”
I stared up at him, eyes wide, each breath I took was shallow. I should have been absolutely terrified by him, but not me. No, I was struggling to disguise how aroused he was making me.
“Scared yet?” He whispered, bringing his face close to mine and staring deeply into my eyes, entrancing me with just one look. I was mute, unable to get the words out. I shook my head slightly. Defiantly. Willing him to do more. Wanting him to do more. He brought his hand up to my face brushing away the long white wet strands that had plastered to my cheeks. My skin tingled where he touched me, like an electrical current was running through me, from his hand to my cheeks and right down to my toes.
“What I would do to you..” He sighed, making it sound like a dark promise full of salacious intent, one that at this moment in time I desperately wanted him to fulfil. I absentmindedly moistened my dry lips and his eyes flicked down to my mouth, watching me.
“f**k it”, he murmured drawing my body against his own, his hand moving from my face to the back of my head, gripping my hair roughly and tilting my head backward so I was looking up at him. I was practically panting with want now, my desire for him only increasing. He claimed my lips with his own, kissing me like a man that had been starved of affection for years, and I responded with equal enthusiasm. I nipped at his lip as we kissed and he let out a deep guttural growl, the sound of it went straight to my groin and I moaned against him.
He lowered both hands to my bum squeezing it roughly before gripping underneath my thighs and lifting me up on to him, I automatically wrapped my legs around his waist, linking my arms around his neck as we continued to kiss.
A wolf howled in the distance, distracting us both and he placed me back down on the ground. He brushed his silky dark hair back from his face in frustration, taking a step back away from me. “I’m so sorry,” he said, his voice tight with an emotion I couldn’t quite place. “I shouldn’t have done that.”
I carefully schooled my face not wanting it to betray the hurt and disappointment I felt at this rejection. I was used to this, why would someone like him want me? You’re so stupid Eloise!
I kept my eyes trained on the floor, not wanting to look at his face, not wanting to see how much he regretted kissing me.
The wolf howled again, a little closer this time and a second wolf echoed its cry, making me look up . Caleb c****d his head to the side slightly as if he could understand what they were saying, he stood there for a few seconds in that position frozen before looking at me sharply.
“You came here alone didn’t you?”
“Yes” I replied and he looked relieved.
“Ahh wait” I started, remembering the stranger. Caleb immediately went tense again. “I came alone,” I stuttered out quickly, Caleb’s expression worrying me. “I was just standing in the rain and this weird man snook up on me.”
Caleb grabbed my shoulders, gripping tightly. “What did he look like? Did he do anything to you?”
“Oww, you’re hurting me!” I said pulling away from him, he loosened his grip but he kept hold of me. “He was tall like you, with blonde hair.” I started.
“Anything else?”
“Yeah he had a long scar on his face and a red eye.”
Caleb ran a hand down his face, he was obviously concerned and stressed about the situation.
“He didn’t do anything to me”, I said meekly, not wanting him to worry. “He was just a bit weird. Told me I smelt appealing and kissed my hand he didn’t hurt me..”
“Does he know your name?” He asked accusingly, interrupting me mid sentence, before letting out an exasperated sigh. “Why did you have to come here, of all places, if you had just gone home. Let Bradley take you back...”
“He only knows my name because someone was yelling it.” I said angrily, not liking where this conversation was going at all. “It’s not your place to tell me where I can and can’t go!”
“I’m trying to look after you!” He shouted back. “Why do you keep fighting me on this.”
“I barely know you, I just met you today.” I let out a short shriek of frustration, I was close to tears. This always happened when I got really angry. “I’ve had enough. I’m going home. I’d rather suffer my fathers company than stay stuck here with you a minute longer.”
I stormed off back the way I had run, grateful that I naturally had a good sense of direction.
“Eloise wait!” I heard him cry out. “I’m sorry...”
“f**k you, Caleb.” I shouted back. “ I never want to see you again.”
