Chapter 13

743 Words
The day has been going considerably okay for Ivy from when she left her hostel... her roommate is still soundly sleeping "Even an earthquake won't wake this girl up, she always slept like a baby", Ivy muttered, slightly smiling. While some babies are light sleepers, she thought it would be better to say that her roommates slept more than a baby It's been a few months since Ivy arrived on campus, leaving everything behind, not wanting to even think about her home Her immediate older sister, Gift, always told her that she was so excited to go to college that she would soon get tired and want to come home- even if it's only for the food. She didn't think she quite agreed with her sis, yes the food here is not like home, yes college is exhausting but she didn't see that as a good enough reason to go back home in a little less than six months As she strolled back to her hostel, she replayed events that had recently happened... She didn’t know when she started doing that, but it had refused to leave her. Just a few days ago, in a bid to try to belong... she was okay not belonging, she never belonged no matter how many locations she changes, but she tried to by joining a study group- Not because she was much of a healthy reader. Still, she didn't want to start failing in her first year. She might have failed in a lot of things in her life. Still, she has never failed in her studies, she doesn't think she was smart-she wasn't, she was just enough to scale through, getting a C and the occasional B was okay for her during her secondary school days. However, she knew she couldn't afford only a C in college, hence she joined the study group. But it just wasn't her vibe, the members were always talking over her and each other, there seemed to be a hierarchy, and Ivy wasn't a fan, so she quietly left. Ivy recalled the events as she strolled back to her hostel. " I think it is fated, groups aren't for me" she laughed at herself As she got to the hostel, everywhere was bustling as usual; there seemed to be no day it wasn’t. The girls' arguments and gossip, or more like gossip that turned into an argument, some making their friend's hair, others paying to make hair because it was cheaper when a student did it. As she got to her room, her roommate Beatrice was up now and on her phone but she looked like she had just recently done "Girl did you pull all nighters or what" she asked teasingly "You wouldn't believe I did, working on a presentation I was to submit today, that's in the past tense now" The girl who was on short braid and still in her nightie replied. Ivy was pleasantly surprised, "You, Beatrice, pulled an all-nighter?" "Shut up girl, you act as if I'm a dumbhead" Beatrice replied "Either way that's a nice thing, but why is it in the past tense now, I know you haven't left this room since today" " Well, the annoying professor rescheduled it at the last minute to tomorrow. I'm so annoyed right now" "Oh girl my prayers are with you" Ivy said pitifully "Shut up" both she and her roommate laughed "Why are you back early today? No lectures ?" The girl added "No lectures- a resting day I adore, I just went for a walk" " That's good, I think I might be needing this for your walk therapy" "You should try it it helps relieve stress" Ivy replied, now sitting on her bed " Sure thing" Beatrice replied and went back to her phone Ivy was seeing high for classes she had tomorrow, and she had 3, which was a lot by her standard. Her phone beeped, and it was a message from her mother checking up on her. She smiled and quickly replied. This was one of the moments she liked- not too much at once. TmmShe wouldn't say she missed her family, but she appreciated that they checked up on her. The only person she slightly missed was her eldest sister Esther, who had been married for about 3 years before she entered college. She dropped her phone and lay down to rest, like she always said- Tomorrow is another day.
