The weekend reached in such a short time and as we prepared the patio for lunch, I couldn't help but wonder what deal did mom have with this. Why did she need to invite Nicholas too? I had not got time to ask her since I had been busy with work at office.
As I chopped the vegetables, I couldn't calm my curious mind anymore. The taunting question had wrecked my brain enough.
"By the way mom, you didn't tell me the reason for all of this, I mean why you had to invite Nicholas?" I c****d a brow at her.
She washed her hands in the sink and then gazed at me like I was a fool. Was I missing something here?
"I am afraid I have to handle all your work now since you have been sloppy recently." Camila muttered calmly.
I stopped chopping so as to look at her. I was in a daze at the moment, she just didn't make sense with her words when I have been the one to entertain all Nicholas's attention by playing this stupid cupid game.
"Recently I found out that our little birdie Perkins has actually a lot of secrets." she smirked at me.
I have just been so busy to search about Nicholas and his deal. All I knew was he was Elias' son and owner of Perkins Wines and Spirits. Well now, what secrets had mother found out that were so relevant.
"Nicholas is the son of Elias Perkins and Alana Perkins. Does the name Alana Perkins ring an alarm in your ears?" Camila asked.
Alana Perkins was not only a philanthropist but also a women rights activist. She had died five years ago due to cancer. Now it all clicked in my mind, Nicholas had said that her mother died of cancer five years back but I didn't pry further about it because I thought it was a sensitive topic to him even when he seemed calm. I know how sensitive I can be when I remember my family.
What reason did Camila have to hold 'the you need to watch your game' face? It was kind of infatuating and I knew of all people how the old widow could be intimidating when she wanted to. Yes, I agreed maybe I had been sloppy about some details lately but I would be grateful if she cleared the air right now abs erase all my curiosity.
"She was a philanthropist and women rights activist." I sternly stared at her.
"Right, but what you don't know dear is that she had a net worth worthy three hundred million dollars."
Now this was news, Mrs. Perkins was a mogul.
"She owned estates, companies and land in both England and Cuba. The most amazing thing is that it was all passed to her son."
What Camila was trying to mean was that Nicholas Perkins was a filthy rich man who probably didn't need my help for his company to rise unless he was hiding something, something I had to find.
"I guess we are on the same page now Patricia." Camila glanced at me as she removed the cupcakes from the oven.
"Do you think Elias saw right through our plan?" I muttered anxiously.
I knew my voice sounded wavy but I wanted to make sure the plan was safe. Was Nicholas playing us too?
"Maybe but I don't think so. We need to extract as much information as possible from him. We can't be so sure." she cast me a look I knew too well.
Before I could retort back, the door to the kitchen flew open revealing my grinning cousin, Natalie. I don't know why mom had to invite her too but I guess I have no other choice as of now but endure her annoying persona.
"There is a sexy young man asking for you Patricia." Natalie smirked at me.
I already knew who it was and I immediately took off my apron to go be a good host.
"Didn't know you shagged yourself a handsome man lately. I hate it when you keep secrets like that dear cousin." I rolled my eyes at her as I washed my hands in the sink.
"Good thing I have already introduced myself just in case he gets bored of your sorry ass."
The woman had the nerve to wink at me as I showed her the middle finger.
"Good because that won't happen sooner." I passed her at the door.
"We will have to see about that then Trish, you already know I have been the hotter one."
I don't know why people didn't choose their family but sometimes I feel like shooting Natalie Summers in the head. She is technically my cousin since Camila adopted me but we haven't been the kind of best friends or siblings.
Although we went to the same schools, Natalie always made it her mission to be better than me even if it meant taking what was mine. We have always been on the competition but Natalie made it clear that she was hotter when she stole my boyfriend in high school.
Yes, the brown haired all slender model figured woman was the definition of beauty. Pale green eyes, plump lips, wide hips and long legs, Natalie was the fairest. I had never denied it but I hate it when she rubbed it in my face.
It wasn't like her life was all rainbows and sunshine, her father died when she was seven, my boyfriend she stole dumped her two months later for another girl and I found her crying in the bathroom. However much I disliked her, I couldn't leave her like that.
We became friends when we avenged Keith, the boy who had cheated on us by revealing about her drunkard of a mother. It was a moment of celebration for both of us and we became closer for a little while but before we knew it high school was done and we both took our different paths.
Lately I heard that she was a Victoria Secret model but other than that, I have to say I know nothing about Natalie Summers.
"Wait and see dear cousin," I could hear the smirk in her voice as she followed me to the sitting room where Nicholas sat nonchalantly.
"Nicky, I brought my dear cousin." Natalie murmured as we walked into the room.
Nicky! For sure Natalie is so full of it. It hasn't been a while back when she met him but she was behaving like she had known him for years. I guess that is my cousin for you, ever out to grab other people's things. I hated thinking about it now than any other times it happened. I don't know why my heart kind of sunk at the thought of Nicholas going with Natalie but only a few months are left for all this to end. By the end of it I doubt he will still be interested either.
Immediately Nicholas turned his attention from his phone to us. I couldn't find what was more beautiful in here than the man sitting on the brown leather couch in my sitting room.
When he rose up, I realised he was wearing a white Monaco shirt and a black Velvet blazer. He was in a pair of skinny jeans coupled with a pair of black Zaras. For a man his age, the look looked superb on him, younger since he was clean shaven but most of all sexy.
I didn't realise I had spaced out until I realised the smirk on his face.
Good Lord.
I cleared my throat before I muttered a simple hey. Instead Nicholas pecked my cheek and for once I realised I wasn't the only one shocked by his bold move, Natalie was too and for a pretty talkative mouth, he had surely shut her up.
Oops!
The blush that crept my face was uncontrollable as I suffered the aftermaths of all his actions. His lips forced a chill down my spine, so soft and warm.
"I missed you and I am quite upset you have not been picking up my calls." Nicholas whispered into my ear.
A tinge across my spine informed me of how close he was and his words, Jesus his words, they made my heart shudder but Nicholas pulled away with a smirk like he was already aware of his doings.
The f*****g bustard.
"Nicholas, I am glad you could make it." I heard mom's voice as she entered the room.
Her voice was calm and warm something I knew Camila was capable of perfecting.
"Mrs. Nielsen." Nicholas acknowledged.
"Please call me Camila, we are here for lunch not a business meeting." she smiled.
"That is right." he chucked softly glancing at me causing a ripple of a feeling to cross my heart at his chuckle. How could a man be so charming and at the same time wise and handsome?
Perhaps the secrets behind the cute face were deeper than he wanted to reveal and for that I needed to find out.
