XXI. Benefit of A Future Wife

2130 Words
Nina’s POV: Tilting my head, I stare at the photo frame. I growled slightly and tipped it to one side then took a step back, crossing my arms. “Why is it not straight!” I yelled at no one in particular. I’ve been standing in the hallway, attempting to hang the photos of Matt and me. However, for some odd reason, it isn’t straight, which irritates me. “What are you doing?” I heard a voice and whipped my head around. “Matt, this photo frame, refuses to be straight!” He chuckled lightly and fixed the photo frame. “Better?” “What the? How did you do that? I’ve been standing here for 30 minutes trying to straighten- you know what? Forget it! Here!” I hand him another frame. Shaking his head, he helped me hang the rest of the photos. Matt is good at everything. Sometimes, I wish I could find a fault in his nearly perfect life. I hate people like Matt. “How does it look?” I asked. I clasp my hands together in satisfaction with the result. Taking a step back, I realize it’s all photos of only Matt and I. Ever since I arrived here, I wonder why he doesn’t have any pictures of his family. Not a single one. But I knew better than to probe into his personal life. Living 24 years, I realize it’s better to know less, and sometimes ignorance is indeed a bliss. He tapped his chin with his fingers and swung his massive arm over my shoulder. “Perfect,” he said. He kissed the top of my head. “Make sure to leave room for our kids and dogs.” He taps my nose lightly. “Come on, Matt. I haven’t filled up the living room and our bedroom yet,” I winked and skipped towards my room. I sat down, after a few more weeks, I decided to unpack. I’m not proud of myself but better late than never. Picking up a hanger, I hung all my clothes. Looking around, I realize I only filled up two racks, and just my t-shirts and pants are left. I’ve always wanted a walk-in closet, and now that I have one. It isn’t as great as I thought it would be. Analyzing the situation, it’s scary, like a monster may crawl out of my large closet while I’m sleeping. Shaking my head, I tell myself to stop watching all those horror movies. However, realistically, I won’t. I’m the type of person who likes watching horror movies by covering their eyes the whole time. I know, it’s not watching if I close my eyes, but in my defense, I peek through my fingers once in a while. I remembered a few days ago, Matt and I watched a horror movie. He sat behind me, forcing my eyes to open and watch every scene. “Open your eyes! Look, they are about to scoop out her gut!” He forced my face towards the tv screen. Stupid me open my eyes, and I release a loud shriek. I turned around and hugged Matt tightly as he erupted into a burst of roaring laughter. “Look! They are about to chop her limbs!” He screamed while continuing his hyena laugh. “Why are you doing this to me!” “You were the one who wanted to watch it!” He threw both arms in the air. I heard a loud, horrific shriek from the tv, and I screamed myself, wrapping my arms and legs around Matt. “Short Stack, do you want me to turn this off?” “No, it’s getting to the good part,” I said with a mix of terror and interest. He looked at me as if I grew a second head. I turned back and saw the man skinning the girl, whip myself back into Matt’s shoulder. “It’s such a good horror movie,” I choked out. He patted my back. “I’m so confused,” he whispered, mainly to himself. “What’s there to be confused about?” I asked. His face scrunched up together, and he shook his head. “You’ve been screaming for the last thirty minutes, but you still want to watch this movie?” “Yeah, we need to finish it, Matt. It’s a good horror movie.” “Why aren’t you watching it?” “Because it’s scary,” I whimper. He pinches the bridge of his nose and exhales, muttering I don’t understand women’s logic. After a few moments, he re-phrase himself mumbling I don’t understand Nina logic. I am so amazing that I have my own logic. Peeking at Matt, he sends me a mischievous grin. He grabs both of my shoulders, swiftly turning me around. “Watch it!” He screamed in an amused tone. “Wait, no! Matt! I can’t.” I cringe when I see the killer stab the woman over and over and over. I wanted to turn my body or close my eyes, but Matt wrapped his legs around my waist and held my hands down. “I’m never watching another horror movie with you again,” I cried. Immediately, my eyes shot wide open, and I grabbed Matt’s arm. “Where are you going?” After the horror festival, I couldn’t sleep by myself. I can, but that coat in the corner of my room looks like it’s about to attack me. “I need to pee,” he whispers. “Take me with you.” I got up and attached myself to his arm, scanning every corner of the room. “Short stack, I’m going to use the toilet.” “Okay, let’s go use the toilet,” I said, scanning my surroundings even more as I held onto his arm tighter. I can hear him muttering: “Oh God,” while we walk to the bathroom. “You need to let go of my arm so I can pull my pants down,” he said. I nod and continue looking at the door - my brows furrow when I hear water splashing. I turned around and saw Matt releasing liquids. Immediately I cover my eyes. “Matt! What are you doing?!” This is my first time seeing his little friend, and I must say, not so small. Now I understand why he is so confident with himself. That thing is like a third leg. I scowl myself for being turned on. The guy behind me is peeing, and I’m feeling horny. If I have money, I will send myself to a psychiatrist. “I’m peeing,” he said while releasing a loud walrus yawn. I stood there, clenching my shirt as I heard the sound of water dripping. “Are you really not leaving?” “Those damn killers are out there! I’m not going anywhere! Just continue peeing!” I shouted, throwing my hands in the air. While he washed his hands, I stared at the running water. “Darn it. I need to pee.” “Oh okay let me leave-” “No! Stay here! Face the wall!” I pointed at the wall while continuing my dance. He closes his eyes for several minutes and turns. I pulled down my pants and started doing my business. “You know. I never thought I would be in the bathroom with a girl who is pulling her pants down, and I’m not pounding her.” I rolled my eyes, “Well, I never thought I would pee in front of a man who hasn’t inserted inside of me.” He shrugs, “We can change that.” I rolled my eyes again, “Matt, I’m peeing, and you want to bang me?” “I’m down for a shower,” he replied casually. I finished my business, washed my hands, and hit his head. He rubs the top of his head while pouting his lips. “We are getting way too comfortable with each other,” he mumbled, shaking his head slightly. I held up my arms, and he lifted me, taking us back into his bedroom. “Want to sleep in here for the next few days?” I tighten my grip on him. “Yes, please.” Opening a drawer, my eyes widened, and I took a step back, more like a leap. I ran towards the bathroom and grabbed a thousand pieces of toilet paper, and cautiously walked back. My lips tighten as I peek slightly inside the drawer to see the black eight eye creature lying there. I stood there, eyeing it as my hands refused to move. Immediately, I ran towards Matt’s workroom. “Matt!” I screamed and grabbed his arm. “I need your help with something important.” He put his document down and looked at me. “What is it?” “There is something in the closet that I need you to dispose of,” I said in my most serious voice. “Nina, we talked about this. If you killed someo-” “No! There is a spider in my closet!” He chuckles lightly, leaning back in his chair. He tossed his pen on his desk and shrugged, “Kill it.” I looked at him. “Matt, if I can kill it, why would I be in here?” He opens his mouth a few times and closes it. He grabbed the toilet paper from my hand and walked into my closet. Looking inside my cabinet, he lifted a brow squashing the spider without a flinch and flush it down the toilet. I had always hated those multiple eyes, eight-legged creatures. I can handle small ones, but when they are furry or have unnaturally freakish long legs, I can’t stand it. I rather sleep on the cold bathroom floor than my warm, soft bed if they are in the same room. “My hero!” I exaggerated, throwing my arms around him. He shook his head, parting my arms lightly, and headed back to his study room. “Wait!” I scream and grab his wrist. “Check all the other drawers, please?” “What do I get out of this?” He crossed his arms, giving me a smirk. “No sass or whining for the whole week?” He bit his lips and rubbed his chin. “Hmm and no yelling or telling me when I can’t do something too.” I rolled my eyes, “That’s my whole personality.” “Fine. How about a kiss on the cheek for a month.” He closed his eyes and tilted his dimple cheek down at me. I twiddle with my thumbs and grab his sleeve. Faster than a blink of an eye, I planted one on his cheek. He froze and stared at me, blinking a few times. “I-I was just joking.” “Oh, s-sorry.” I took a step back and started playing with my fingers, mentally cursing myself for doing such a thing. Of course, he is joking. I stood there rubbing my toes together, not quite sure what to say. He stood there, rocking back and forth. “Don’t be sorry,” he said towards the wall behind me. Trailing his eyes towards mine, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me into a hug. “One month, you have to do it,” he mumbles. As he walked into my closet, I thought I saw him skipping slightly, but it must be my imagination. My mind is quite foggy due to the strange event occurring earlier. I peek inside and watch him as he checks all the drawers. “Clear!” I release a loud breath of relief. “Gosh for a high-class building. I can’t believe there are spiders.” A few days passed freely, and I did absolutely nothing except eat and sleep. So, this is how it feels to be wealthy. Hearing a ding, I looked down at my phone and read the email. My eyes brighten at the message. “Matt! Matt! Matt!” I screamed, hitting his chest. “I am sitting next to you; why are you screaming?” He said as he rubs his chest lightly. “I got an interview for the place I applied to!“. For the past three weeks, I’ve been sitting on my butt applying for job after job. Job hunting, isn’t it so much fun? Note the immense sarcasm. Matt said I don’t have to rush and think of it as a vacation, but I get incredibly anxious when I’m not working. Sitting around and doing nothing is boring. I’ve done nothing except walk around the community; Matt refuses to let me step outside without him. He even told the gates keeper to keep an eye on me. Since I can’t go out, I’ve run into Jack a few times. Yay! Again sarcasm. He smiles, “Really?” “Yes! Yes! Yes! Really!” I squeal, jumping into his arms. He spins me around, “I’m happy for you, sweetheart.” He kissed the top of my head. “I’m not going to pay rent,” I joked. “You don’t have to.” I looked at him and blinked a few times. “Seriously? You aren’t going to make me pay rent?” Sometimes, I can’t understand what Matt is thinking. For over two years, I realized one thing, if Matt does not want to talk about something, he will not talk about it. He is relatively good at keeping secrets. “This is your home now, and as your future husband, how can I make you pay rent?” “Wow, free food and rent? Being your future wife is amazing!” I yelled, holding onto him tighter as he spun me around once more, causing me to squeal. I smack his back. “Wait! Wait! Put me down, Matt! I need to call Alice and go shopping!” He placed me on the ground. “Okay, let’s go,” he said. My eyebrows furrow as I looked at him. “You don’t have to go shopping with me. It will be boring, you know.” “Anywhere with you is never boring.”
