Chapter One
ROCHELLE
Rule number one when dating your crush: Never, ever, accept to be in an open relationship.
I headed to SilverStone Academy, a big bouquet of flowers in my hand, chocolate bars and a costly perfume that took more than half of my savings.
All to surprise my boyfriend on our first anniversary. As I walked past the students, their eyes followed me.
“What is the omega doing this time?”
“Is this a new way of seeking attention?”
“I bet you the flowers are for Alpha Darren. She's always shamelessly throwing herself at him. Doing everything to get him to look at her.”
“Well, what do you expect when a lowly worthless omega is admitted into a school for royalty?”
My fingers curled tightly around the bouquet and at that moment, all I wanted to do was turn around and yell that their precious Alpha Darren was my freaking boyfriend.
But I couldn't. He made me promise not to, and I couldn't afford to get him mad on our special day. Besides, if I tried to defend myself, I might end up attracting those bullies.
I wanted today to go as perfectly as possible.
My life in Silverstone has been hell since the first day I stepped into it. The minute I was sniffed out as an omega in a school for Alpha blood, I officially became the object of humiliation and entertainment for Silverstone.
I was beaten up, humiliated, and stripped of everything. Until one day, a set of beautiful brown eyes rested on me. I was covered in mud from head to toe and my glasses were missing. All I could do was cry as they laughed, until a white handkerchief wiped my face gently.
At first, I had assumed it was my imagination, but the gasps from the crowd confirmed it was indeed real. Prince Darren, the Alpha Prince of Silverstone pack, was crouched over me, fixing my perfectly wiped glasses back on my face.
And right before everyone, he offered me a hand. It was love at first sight.
Even now, the mere thought of it made my cheeks flame.
I headed to the bleachers where he usually hung out every morning with his friends. From where I stood, it seemed he was alone so I quickly hurried to him.
“Darren!” I called with excitement as I ran over, but just then, a girl's head popped up and I froze in my tracks. She licked her lips like she had been doing something down there and straddled him.
My heart squeezed tightly as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her. The bouquet dropped as tears began to gather in my eyes.
Why… Why would he do this? On our anniversary? It's not like he forgot. We texted last night, talked about all the things we were going to do today and the first thing he does this morning is kiss another girl?
Before the tears could roll down my cheeks, a hand suddenly draped over my shoulders and another grabbed my hair.
“Hey, look! It's our little playmate,” a voice taunted, and I instantly recognized it as Baxi, one of Darren's notorious friends.
“Mind explaining what you're doing here so early in the morning, Anderson?” Liam, the one who grabbed my hair asked.
“Is that a bouquet?” Baxi suddenly snorted, and I snapped out of my daze and immediately pulled myself from them, grabbing the flowers before they could think of destroying them. Before I got it off, Baxi stepped on my hand and I let out a wince. The action made them laugh and he applied more pressure.
“Stop, please…” I pleaded.
“Hey, Darren, look who we have here,” Liam yelled, and Darren pulled away from the kiss, his head turning to us. All I wanted to do at that moment was turn on my heels and run away, but they wouldn't let me.
“Go ahead,” Baxi smirked, releasing me. My hand was already red and hurting badly. “You came here for a reason right?”
“Rochelle,” Darren called out and my body went stiff. “Come over here,” he ordered.
My fists clenched so hard that they began to hurt. I blinked back the tears and walked over to him. On getting there, I suddenly realised who she was.
Sophia Watson. The school's beauty icon. The day she got admitted into Silverstone was the very day Darren asked for an open relationship, as if being secret wasn't torture enough.
“What are those?” Sophia asked, her blue eyes shooting daggers at me. I didn't pay any attention to her. After all, she wasn't the first girl Darren had cheated on me with.
Before, he used to have the decency to keep it away from me, but now, he doesn't mind doing it in my face.
Darren stood up, his face devoid of any form of remorse.
“It's actually a surprise, baby”, he answeret for me, with a sickeningly sweet smile on his face. “You know today is your birthday, so I thought, what do I have to do to make you happy?”
My blood ran cold as my lips parted in shock. He reached for the bouquet in my hands, attempting to take it from me. I stared at him in confusion as I held on to the bouquet, but then he snatched it from me and got down on one knee.
“Happy birthday, sweetheart,” he said, and she squealed in excitement. Tears stung my eyes, but I fought to keep them at bay.
“Wow, I did not see that coming,” Liam chuckled. So you are just a delivery girl. Why didn't you say so earlier? We almost ruined those flowers.”
“I wonder what else you have here,” Liam muttered, reaching for my backpack.
“No, you can't…” I tried to protest, but he simply pulled me roughly. In all this, Darren simply watched. Just like everyone else in school, his friends knew nothing about our relationship, and he wanted to keep it that way.
He claimed that, just like the girls in school, they would make my life even more miserable. How foolish I was to believe that.
My bag was opened, and they brought out the gift bag containing the bar and perfume. I purposely didn't add any tags to it because I wanted to protect him in case someone found it. Now, I regret that decision.
“Is that from me?” Sophia gasped.
“No, it's not…” I was saying when Darren cut me short.
“Of course, sweetheart, you didn't think I would just gift you flowers, did you?”
Anger coursed through my veins. He was going to give a gift I got for him to another girl.
“Darren…”
“It's Alpha Darren,” he coldly corrected. “You should leave now. You’ve served your purpose. I’ll let you know when I need you again.”
The words pierced through my heart and the tears came pouring down. I turned away immediately, running from the humiliating scene he had just made of me.
