The next day I go to the blackwood mansion with one thing in mind, finding a way to get out of the stupid contract. When n Mr. blackwood appears in the living room where I was waiting for him, without even greeting I immediately said “I'm sorry Mr. blackwood but I can’t marry your son, I'm sure we can find another way for me to repay your debt”
Mr. blackwood looked at me, unamused and then burst into laughter “child, if I knew this was what you wanted to say, I wouldn’t have wasted my time coming down to see you” he says
“Please, I’ll pay you back everything I owe I promise, but please I can’t go through with this wedding” I beg feeling desperate
“And how do you intend to pay me back mm? he asks mockingly
“I I can get another job and take a loan, I promise I’ll pay you back your money please” I beg again and this time there’s tears of frustration in my eyes
“No, I don’t want the money back Nina, what I want is you go marry my son in two weeks, this is nonnegotiable so let’s not waste each other time” he says as he attempts to leave but then I scream
“Wait! You can’t do this, you can’t force me to marry your son, that’s illegal”
“Oh yeah?” says a deep voice coming from the stairs, I look up and I see Adrian walking towards us
“it’s illegal but what can you do about it” he adds this time moving closer to me invading my personal space
“Back up” I yell getting not only frustrated but also angry, they can’t do this to me
“I I can report this to the police you know? The contract doesn’t matter” I try to threaten them seeing as begging isn’t working
“Oh darling, you didn’t read the contract did you” Adrien asks mockingly.
“what” I ask
He then picked up a document from the coffee table in the middle of the living room and threw it to me, I caught it and opened it realizing it was the contract. I read it and f**k I really messed up, why didn’t I read the damn contract before signing I thought with tears in my eyes
The contract read that in any case of a breach, the blackwood's are entitled to triple the amount of the original debt, I can’t even pay back the original debt, how the hell am I expected to pay triple the amount and in addition to all this, I can never disclose this contract to anyone and I can’t file for a divorce ever which means I'm stuck with this pig for life
“So, you still wanna go report to the police now? That will just give us the right to sue you for everything you have, and from what we know your house is under your name right? You want to leave your precious family homeless?” Adrian mocks
I am left speechless, how could anyone be so heartless, no, this can’t be happening, how could I be stupid enough to sign a contract without reading it, fuck
“Adrien, look I know you don’t want to do this, you said it yourself I'm just a common maid, why would you want to marry me, I'm sure you can get whoever you want” I try to reason with him but he only looks back at me with that ever-present smile I'm beginning to find infuriating, oh how good it will feel to be able to wipe that stupid smirk off his stupid face
“The wedding has been shifted to a week by the way” I hear Mr. blackwood says from where he is now seated on the couch, his legs crossed and a glass of wine in his hands
“what” I turn my head so fast to face him I almost break my neck
“don’t worry your pretty head darling, we’ll take care of everything, all you gotta do is show up and look pretty” Adrien says
I feel tears raining down my face before I could even stop them, I feel so drained already and I already know this is only the beginning
“What do you want from me” I ask steeling my voice, trying to appear strong despite the tears running down my face “I have nothing to offer you and I am sure you are capable of getting yourself a wife without having to force anyone so why are you doing this to me”
“it’s simple” Adrien replies, “I want you and I always get what I want”
“Are you crazy, you don’t even know me” I yell
“Mmh, I know all I need to know though, Nina Andrews, you're 23 years old, an orphan, you live with your stepmom and daughters who treat you like s**t but you like to delude yourself into thinking they care about you, love you even, is that about right?” he asks c*****g his head in a mocking manner
“How the hell do you know that” I ask, starting to feel a headache from everything I've had to process today
“I know whatever I want to know darling” he says walking closer to me and tucking a stray strand of hair behind my ear, he leans in and whispers in my ear “ I can also do whatever I want, so be a good girl ad just accept that this marriage is happening whether you like it or not”
His hot breath on my ear sends a shiver down my spine and I step back to put some distance between us and with a sudden feeling of anger and rage, I walked out slamming the door behind me
When I arrived at home, Mimi was already discharged from the hospital and I ran to hug her and broke into tears, they all looked at me worriedly and after a while of interrogation from the twins I finally told them what happened
“But this is a good thing, why are you crying that you get to marry a rich man, God you're so annoying” Safa says looking annoyed
“Did you say blackwood, they’re like one of the richest families in New York, Adrien blackwood is like the most eligible bachelor, are you crazy Hana, how did you get involved with them?” sana asks looking at me like I've grown two heads
“It doesn’t matter because over my dead body will I marry someone like that” I say
“With what I know of the blackwood's, it might actually be over your dead body” sana says and we all turn to her confusion evident in our faces
“What I mean is, I've heard rumors that no one crosses them without repercussions, they’re very powerful and get away with pretty much everything, they’ve even been rumors accusing them of murdering some people that dared to cross them so for your sake and our sake even, you better marry him” sana exclaims
Well If I didn’t know I was f****d before, I definitely know it now.
