The night was quiet too quiet.
After the gathering the pack returned to their homes. The fire in the clearing burned low. Darian and I stayed back with Victor to check the perimeter.
They will come tonight Darian said.
I knew he was right. I could feel it through the bond. A low pull of danger from the east.
How many I asked.
At least eight Victor said. They were watching from the trees.
We cannot wait for them to attack first I said.
Darian stopped walking and looked at me.
What are you thinking he asked.
We meet them halfway I said. On neutral ground. Show the pack we are not afraid.
That is risky Victor said.
So is letting them pick the time and place I said.
Darian was silent for a long moment. Then he nodded.
You lead I said. I will stand beside you.
