He blinked twice. A third time. Then he stepped aside. Brooke shoved past him, her fingers laced through Kenneth’s. “Brooke, wait!” Trace shouted, but she had stopped answering. Brooke led Kenneth through the living room, out the door and shoved it shut behind her. Just before it clicked into its frame, she heard Autumn say, “Look what you did now. If you ever want Brooke to give you the time of day again, stop humiliating her.” Trace’s reply got lost in the slamming of the door, but his sarcastic ‘I’m never wrong’ tone rang loud and clear in Brooke’s ears. “What a charming man,” Kenneth commented.
