Despite her fatigue, by the time she arrived back at the apartment, Brooke began feeling a few bubbles of excitement. And why not? she thought as she pulled into her parking space. Today, the parking spot neighbor with the poor skills hadn’t arrived home yet, and she was able to position her car more comfortably. Yawning, she locked the door with an absentminded click of the key fob and made her way inside. Again, a cluster of gossiping roommates hovered around the mailboxes. “What’s the word?” Brooke asked as she collected a pile of bills, notices, advertising and other assorted junk, most of which she dropped straight into a recycling bin near the front door. “They’ve shown the building twice,” a middle-aged matron called over her shoulder as she herded two teenage boys up the stars. “
