Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Brooke stepped out of a downtown parking lot near the ‘L’ station and approached a small assembly of food trucks. For once, the temperature had risen into the sixties, a tolerable temperature even for her thin Texas blood. Her light jacket sufficed, though her gloves remained tucked into the pockets, as it would be fully dark and cold by the time the show ended. A huge crowd of hungry tourists and locals crowded around the trucks, but somehow, Kenneth’s tall frame and bright smile drew her eyes like a magnet.
