ALL OF Tariq Nasir’s AmeriPAK companies were headquartered in Chicago, and the situation Scott Kruse had just described to him over lunch made it once again abundantly clear why he had arranged it so. It was seldom that the CEOs of all the AmeriPAK subsidiaries got together as a whole, but when they did, having most of them ready at hand was always helpful. When meetings of the “executive committee”—as Nasir called such gatherings—occurred, nothing short of near-death circumstances excused an executive’s absence.
