“Is it true he forced you into marriage?” “Did Mr. Brooks ever assault you?” “Mrs. Brooks, are you here under pressure to defend him?” The barrage of questions rained down like bullets. Flashes from the cameras lit her face, momentarily blinding her. Olivia flinched but caught herself quickly. She straightened her back, clenched her hands by her sides, and kept walking. Nathan stayed close, his hand firm and steady on her lower back. On her other side, Christopher walked in silence. He didn’t say a word, but his proximity offered a strange sort of shield.
