The hallway’s dead quiet. Almost everyone’s already gone, which makes it the perfect time to catch her. I spot her just as she’s leaving the auditorium. Her eyes are fixed on the paper, her lips moving like she’s running through lines even now. Why the hell is she trying so hard? It’s just a stupid school play, but it’s not just that. Not when she’s actually improving and when it feels like she’s doing it just to prove me wrong.
