Caslista's POV Tears clouded my eyes as I stared at my phone and then at the ceiling. Since Emily and West are not around, I spent the whole night thinking. Trying to come up with what to do. My mother's illness is worsening, and here I am, only able to raise half the money of her treatment. Fuck! I ruffled my hair, bursting into another round of tears. I can't believe she looked me in the eyes and was asking me ‘who I was’... The sound of an incoming call, which seemed to be ringing nonstop, provoking the hell out of me, snapped me out of my deep thoughts. I reached for my phone, about to switch it off and think of what possible option, even if I have to do something I swore not to do… “Miss Hanna—” “Calista, can you just stop doing this? I have called several times and also texted you several times,” Miss Hanna interrupted me, sounding like this wasn't one of her useless calls. She always does this when she has to blame me for messing up and creating a bad image for myself out there. “Calista, I think it is finally happening. You got an offer. It is a lead role from last year's IMF award-winning director,” Miss Hanna's words made me gasp. If she is referring to Andrew Smith, the same winning director of the multiple award-winning movie ‘All That Glitters’. O-my-f*****g goodness! “Come over now if—” “I will be there in ten minutes,” I interrupted Miss Hanna, who hung up seconds later before I could correct myself. Now I am left with getting my ass up and being down at the agency building in ten minutes. I quickly let go of the pillow and rushed into the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and took my shower in a rush like I was racing against time. In less than three minutes, I was done with bathing. I headed back to my room and applied my body lotion to just my hands, feet and face before dressing up. After everything, I ended up burning six minutes. With the way Miss Hanna sounded over the phone, it was like if I didn't make it on time, I would miss the role. I started the car before driving down at the highest speed, hoping I wouldn't get stopped. If I knew the reason Miss Hanna was calling me, I would have picked that f*****g phone up. “You are always late—” “Have you given the role to another person? Like, did I miss it?” I asked sharply even though I wasn't making sense. Instead of a response, Miss Hanna burst into laughter, her gaze lowered to my feet. “Not when you are dressed this way with a mismatched pair of shoes,” she finally let out the most useless words that have ever come out of her mouth ever since she started working with me. “The company doesn't want you for this role, but Mr Andrew especially wants you.” “He said he had the same insight as the writer on what the female lead is, and you were the one for them. " Miss Hanna's words made me giggle. Without giving me the chance to ask how big the project is and the pay, she continued, “Mr. Andrew said this would be his biggest series. You would be pairing with star actors.” Just hearing about this, nothing mattered to me aside from the pay attached to it. “Okay. When—” Before I could complete my statement, Mr Andrew walked into the agency, holding a document, with that satisfying smile as he lowered his gaze to look at me. “Have your manager discussed everything with you?” He asked calmly, maintaining the smile on his face. I was so focused on staring at him, trying to confirm if this was really happening. Not an extra supporting character, but a lead role with him! “Hmmm… yes…” “Good,” he said, then stretched over one of the documents in his hand amongst the others. “This is everything you need to know about the series.” I quickly took the papers which contained every detail of the series. It is a high school romance, a hockey bully romance. Fuck it! I have always known something was wrong with the level of certainty. It was all because I was Ryan f*****g Van's daughter… “How much am I getting paid for the role?” I asked calmly, not sure if turning down my first offer for a high-budget drama that could even land me an award would do me any good. What matters right now is the pay! I have to add to the already deposited payment for my mother's treatment so the doctor will start the treatment before it gets worse. “It is eighty thousand dollars for the first season. We would likely increase the pay in the subsequent seasons,” Mr Andrew's response left my jaw dropping. He was the answered prayer I needed. “I need to be somewhere important now. Let's continue this conversation later,” he left before I could talk about proceeding with the contract signing. “Miss Hanna, have you—” “Yes, he has paid into the company's account. As you know, you signed a contract, and according to the CEO,’' Miss Hanna paused, avoiding eye contact. “You would receive thirty thousand dollars now and the remaining thirty thousand dollars after wrapping the film.”
