Chapter 4- The Miracle

596 Words
At Emma's door, I heard cries of pain. "Emma," I yelled. "Help," her voice gurgled. Cole rushed in, g*n poised. Emma was on the floor, with a vampire pinning her to the ground. Cole stepped out of his body, rushed over, and torched it. But he was to late. I shouted at him to get the antidote for vampire's bite. Cole got it, and injected it into Emma's neck. Emma's neck healed. She was even able to stand up! " But... you... the... your legs?" I sputtered, speechless. "Not anymore. I think the antidote healed me." Emma grinned. Cole looked at me, hope bathing in his eyes. I know what he was thinking. Would the antidote work for me? "It's worth a shot." I said, praying to... myself. I am godless after all. Cole came over, gently lifted my hair from my neck, and injected me. I gasped. Liquid fire was boiling in my blood, puddling on my broken bones… I felt it everywhere. When the fire faded, I tried standing up. Sucess! I tried walking to Emma. Double sucess! "It worked," I gushed, astonished. Emma gave me a hug. "Let's go show everyone!'' she said, already skipping out of the room. I rolled my eyes, and started to follow her. A warm hand wrapped around my wrist and tugged me into a hard chest. I looked up at Cole, who had a happy glint in his eyes. "Don't you need to shower?" I pointed out. "Are you okay?" he said, ignoring my question. "Yeah." "Good. I want to show you something." he said, tugging me out the door, towards a door that had 33 on it. Cole knocked on the door. "Mom," he called. "Yes Cole?" a shrill voice came from within. Cole opened the door. He tugged me in, shut the door, and walked to the center of the room, where a small cage was. Mrs. Tillight came into the room, carrying a big box. "Extra closet" Cole said. She nodded, walking out. He turned to me. "All of the slayers are required to have an animal companion. Open the cage and pick one." Cole said. I looked at the cage, then him, the cage, then him, but curiosity got the better of me. I walked over to the cage and sat down. When I opened the cage, two black… "Kittens" I breathed. One had scampered to a crouching Cole, and the other was hopping in my lap. I looked at it. It had black fur and green eyes. I stroked its head. "This one," I said, looking at Cole. He was petting the other kitten, who was rubbing against his knees. "What's her name? This one's Rebel. He is very naughty. Reminds me of myself." Cole said. It didn't take me long to decide. "Alice." I said. I think the kitten liked it, because she started purring. "Watch this," Cole said. "Rebel. There is a vampire behind you." I watched in amazement. Rebel had stepped out of his body, lit up like a Forth Of July rocket, and hunted the room for the supposed vampire. When he confirmed there were none, he stepped back into his body. I realized Alice had done the same. "Their special cats. They are also slayers, but we have to train them. Come on, they belong in our room." Cole said. He put Rebel in the cage and motioned for me to do the same. I reluctantly put her in. I carried it to our room, where Cole pointed out the closet. Then, we went down to lunch.
