I could hear scrambling. “No, you’re not. Where are you?” He demanded. I used my free hand to clean my eyes profusely, like he was here, and would be able to see me. I needed to have some control of my emotions. It was a mistake answering the phone in the first place. “I’m fine, Mike,” I mumbled. More shuffling ensued. “You don’t sound fine, Maya!” He snapped right back. I sighed as I got up, feeling like my legs weighed a ton of bricks. “You’re paranoid.
