CHAPTER.3

Mara, the maid I put in charge of my son just called to inform me Jaxon has a new nanny. A new nanny for my son and Logan didn’t inform me? Is this his new trick to bring me back to that house? Logan’s love for me would be the end of him. I should go back and see what this new nanny talk is all about. I might not be in their lives but it’s only fair I’m involved in matters involving my son. I know I’m not even fit to call him my son but I birthed him and I’m using him to get Logan to sponsor my lifestyle. I always threaten to take him away from Logan when he talks about cutting off my allowances. Life is good when you learn to get what you want with what you have. Well, once I’m tired of this lifestyle, I can always go back to Logan, he loves me a lot and will do everything to have me back. Marriage and being a mother? Ha! I can’t be tied down. I only want to shop, travel and meet like minded people, go after men(old and young, I don’t care), I just want to live!

Ava’s POV

Maggie must be mistaken. Jaxon, a shy kid? I can’t even catch my breath, if he isn’t talking my ears off, he’s making me chase after him. So full of energy but he doesn’t even look it. “Ava! Come get me!”. Here we go again, hide and seek?? “Coming Jax!”. My mind often wander around, questioning where a mother could leave her 3year old to. Maybe business? Yes, must be business. Rich people’s problem. I’ll just ask Maggie or Jaxon? Nah, Jax would definitely tell his daddy I asked, no?

“Found you!”. I screamed as I saw Jaxon hiding under the dinning settings. He came out laughing. “You found me because I wanted you to Av.” Av??? That’s new. “Okay, hide better next time. I’ll still find you.” “Okay. Something to eat Av?”. “Sit, I’ll find you something”. Good, right time to ask. My nosy self can’t take it anymore. I made him a cup of chocolate since the maid said he’ll have his lunch soon. “Here, Jax”. “Thanks Av”. My time is here!! “So Jax, where’s mommy? You must miss her a lot”. Silence. Silence? He should be delighted to tell me about her, no? “Jax? You okay?”, I asked cause he doesn’t seem interested in his chocolate anymore. “I’m fine Ava. Can I go to my room now?”. Why? “Yes yes, you can”. He didn’t even wait for permission before he ran up? What was that? “Ava, you shouldn’t have asked about him mommy”. Maggie? Sorry? Why? “Oh, and why’s that Maggie?”. “It’s a long story that isn’t mine to tell. Just avoid mentioning his mom next time. I’m sure Mr Reed would be so mad to hear about this.” Mad, how? “Okay, Maggie”.

Logan’s POV

I was in a meeting when Jaxon called. What could be the problem? We have a nanny for him now. I’ll just call back and see. “Hey, my big boy”. Silence. “Hey Jax?”. Sobs. Sobs? “Jax, what’s the problem? Is Maggie there? What about your nanny? Give your nanny the phone son”. I panicked. “Daddy, can you come home?”. “Okay, I’m on my way”. I left the office with just my phone. What could the problem be? I’ve called the house and nobody is responding to me.

Ava’s POV

Jaxon decided he doesn’t want to talk to me anymore, I’ll just rest in my room. I was just about feeling comfortable when a knock came. “Ava, the boss wants to see you in his room”, probably one of the maids. See me? Now? He’s back early today. “Okay, be right there”. Good, I’ll let him know Jaxon has been acting up too and he’s too young for that. I knocked and waited. “In”. What was that tone? I went in and boy! This man! I know I know, we promised to not think of any man, yes but this wouldn’t hurt, he has a whole family! “I asked a question”. What question? “Sorry?”. “I asked, what happened with my son today?”. Oh, is this how it’s going to be? Come home everyday and ask how it’s going with his son? Fine, I’ll let him know his little prince has an attitude at his little age. I mean, I like Jax but why did he act like that towards me today? “Nothing sir, we pla….”. “No, not those. I need to hear what you said to Jaxon that made him call me back from work by this time. Go on, tell me”. “I only asked him about his mommy and I was met with an attitude, Sir”. Is that anger I see? He still looks as handsome as ever though! “His mommy”?

Logan’s POV

“His mommy?” I had to make sure I heard her. Why would I be called home from work because a nanny has refused to mind her business? His mommy? “Now Miss Williams, what are you here for?”. “To care for Jaxon”. It was more like a question but I can’t care right now. “Good, just care for Jaxon. I don’t want you asking him questions, just care for him like a nanny would. Don’t ask about his mommy, don’t call him Jax, don’t let him get attached to you. I don’t want my son hurt when you leave. Do you understand me?”. “Yes sir”, she said looking hurt herself. I waved my hand at her to dismiss herself. I didn’t mean to be harsh but I needed to be clear. I’m only addressing this just because nobody has had this conversation with her, I would have asked Lily to terminate her contract immediately. Jaxon is taking a break from pre school because I don’t want him feeling hurt when he hears mommy or see other kids with theirs. That’s how badly Jessica hurt my son and I’ll never forgive her. I’ll just go check on Jaxon and go back to the office.

“Hey Jax, you feel better now?”. “Yes daddy”. “Good, son. Don’t stay mad at your nanny, she doesn’t know our story and don’t be rude to her anymore, okay?”. “I wasn’t rude, daddy. I’ll apologize to her.” “Good, I’ll see you at dinner or tomorrow morning. I still have work waiting at the office.” “Okay daddy, bye”. I went ahead to hug him, my poor baby.

Ava’s POV

I don’t think I want this job anymore. How can father and son be mean to me? I’ll have to start looking for another job. I thought Jaxon liked me. A faint knock came. Now what? I need a break please. “Yes, in”. I said, mimicking Mr Reed. No answer. Sigh. I’m stressed already, I just said come in! I dragged myself to the door, “yeah…?”. Oh, Jaxon. “Hi Av?” He said looking sad. “Hi Jaxon. Want to come in?”. He went into my room without responding. Rude. “I’m sorry Av”. Oh? He’s sorry? Rude yeah but sweet also. “I shouldn’t have walked out on you. I’m sorry”. Dear dear. I went to hug him because his eyes became glossy. “It’s fine Jaxon. Next time, communicate to me if I say or ask anything out of line, okay”. I said, patting his hair. “Okay Av. I’m not rude Av”. Oh boy, so cute. “I know you’re not my boy, you’re a sweet sweet little boy”, I said smiling at him now. “I’m not little too”. “Okay big boy!” I said laughing. “Av, mommy left daddy and I”. Silence. “She doesn’t love us”. Okay okay, I wanted to know about his mommy but I sure as hell wasn’t ready for this information. “Why, Jaxon?”. “We don’t know. It’s just me and daddy now”. Okay, so Mr Reed doesn’t have a woman, just great! No men but great! But why do I feel sad? Oh s**t, you dumb girl! Jaxon is without a mother! My sweet boy. “Oww Jaxon, must be sad. I’m sorry my boy”. I said hugging him and he held me tight. “I’m here, okay?”. “Okay Av, can you stop calling me Jaxon too? I said it was okay to call me Jax”. “I don’t think your daddy would like that”. “He will!”. He shouted, smiling up at me. “Okay Jax. You wanna play?” I’m too tired but I wanted to make him happy. “Yes! Catch me!”, he screamed while running around my room. Jaxon is really a sweet boy, so easy to please. Why did his mom leave though? I better mind my business before I’m called upon by Mr Reed again.

Logan’s POV

I didn’t make it home early last night to check on Jaxon, I’ll see him this morning and know how he’s doing. I was already at the table waiting for breakfast when I heard him. He sounded happy and I couldn’t help but smile to myself. I looked up and there he was! With his nanny? I don’t know if it’s jealousy I feel but they already made up? Atleast Jaxon is happy. “Hi daddy!”, he ran to me. “Easy son. How are you?”. “Good!”, he said looking at the food before us. “Hungry?”. “Yes!”. Hyperactive today, are we?? I let him eat while his nanny stood just by the corner watching us. “Av, come sit!”. Av?? I turned to look at the nanny and she was smiling at Jaxon. “Okay, Jax”. Jax? Told her to not call him that! I turned to look at Jaxon and he was smiling too? What’s going on? They made up already? I’m not always home and I don’t want my son getting attached to someone else but me. I heard them whispering. Now I’m being ignored in my own house. “I’ll see you later son”. “Okay daddy, bye!”. He said without looking at me. I didn’t even get a hug. I’ll see him later, Austin said we need to meet.

Austin has been a good friend since I can remember, I even think of him as a brother. We have so much in common, aside from his womanizing side. Got to my office and he was already there. Flirting with Lily, sigh. “You need a room Austin?”,I asked, startling both of them. “Good morning sir”, Lily greeted. I could tell she was embarrassed. Good, play with Austin outside my office. Austin just sat on the couch smiling at Lily being embarrassed at my presence. “She’s cute”. He said as Lily hurried out of my office. “You say that about every other lady Austin”, I almost laughed. “I mean it this time”, he was suddenly serious. “Then go for it, just not in my office anymore Austin”, I told him seriously too. Silence. “So what’s up? You know I’m busy? Or you’re here to talk about Lily?”. He laughed. “You’re not happy to see me, dear friend?”. “I just didn’t have the best morning and I have a lot of work to do”. “No you don’t, Lily said you’re taking up your work and everyone else’s . Not the best morning? Why’s that?”. “Lily said that? Well, I have to do something to take my mind off things and Jaxon, I think my absence is making him get closer to strangers”. I said remembering how close he was with the nanny. “What strangers Logan?”. “Well, he has a new nanny and he chats with her as if he’s known her forever. He didn’t even hug me goodbye”. Laughter. What’s funny?? I eyed Austin. “Man, how come I’m just hearing about this nanny?”. “Lily didn’t tell you? Since she runs her mouth to you about everything, tsk”. More laughter. “Chill man. If Jaxson is chatty with her, it means he’s comfortable. Don’t tell me you’re scared a nanny would take your place?”. Silence. “C’mon man. If you’re that worried, then stop overworking and take your mind off things by spending time with him”. Right! I’ll do just that. “Then about this nanny, can I know more about her?”. He just said he was serious about Lily, bloody womanizer. The nanny, I haven’t had time to look at her but I welcome her presence. It’s comforting. “Leave me alone Austin. Why are you here?”. I asked, ready to dismiss him and think about this nanny. How did she get Jax to be like this with her? Even Maggie, my oldest maid, doesn't get this treatment from Jaxon, he doesn’t even let her call him Jax. “It’s about Jessica”. Thinking paused. Jessica? Can’t I catch a break? “What about Jessica”. “She came unto me. She said she wants me and if I’ll spare her some money, I can have her”. “Do you want her?”. Laughter. “C’mon man, want Jessica? Nah. I’m just here to tell you to divorce her. Stop hoping to get her back someday Logan, she’s gone. See the amount of money you send to her and it’s never enough! Now she wants to sleep with men and get paid?”. “I’m not going on with a divorce because I still want Jessica, it’s all for Jaxon. How would he feel knowing his mommy will never be back. It’s not easy man”. Silence. “I understand you man but if she comes back, will you allow her to be a mother to Jaxon? Think about it, divorce is the best. The earlier you do it, the better for you and Jaxon”. True. “I’ll think about it, Austin”. “You do that! I'll see you later and say hi to the new nanny for me”, he winked at me. Poor Lily. Austin gives the best advice I won’t lie, happy to have him. A great friend. Now, what do I do with Jessica?
