The taxi pulled to a stop in front of Kai's school. It was my baby's first day of school and I was a ball of nerves, anxiety and excitement.
Kai was dressed in his little uniform which was a white polo shirt, a dark blue sweater and black trousers. He looked like the cutest boy ever and he was excited to go to school.
I really hope his excitement was real or he just hasn't realized what he was getting himself into.
Goddess, I really hope not.
We got down from the taxi and I paid the driver. I held Kai's small hands as we walked to the school's gate.
I wasn't rich, but I made sure to enroll him in one of the best schools. Security was also one of the most important things that I wanted for my son.
So, the school was the perfect choice.
Kai and I stood outside as I handed the security guard his student ID and he finally let us in. It was a school that had both a student and parent's ID, no one aside the child's parent is allowed to pick up the child from school. Except given permission from the legal guardian.
The school was a bit big and looked intimidating. It was a private school for children aged from three to sixteen years. It had its own security guards and was located on the middle of the town.
We walked inside the school and were immediately greeted by the principal, a human male in his mid thirties. He looked very friendly, and was dressed smartly in a three piece suit.
Another thing that made me relieved was that the school was owned by werewolves. Obviously, the humans don't know that, but it was a school that had both humans and werewolves.
Werewolf children were always a bit difficult to handle, they were a lot stronger than human children. And their wolf was a bit too protective of them.
I couldn't imagine the headache of having a werewolf child who was a lot stronger than his teacher or the other kids.
Werewolves were always a handful.
I just hoped Kai wouldn't give them a hard time.
The principal showed me around the school, and introduced me to Kai's teacher. She was a woman in her early forties, and looked very experienced. She was a human, and was very kind and friendly.
I liked her, and could already tell he was going to take good care of Kai.
"Well, that was the last stop on our tour," Principal Anderson smiled, leading me and Kai back to the main building where we had started.
"It's a great school," I commented.
"We are glad you think so. It's one of the best private schools in the state. We have lots of human and werewolf students, and they are all treated equally. We believe everyone is the same and should be treated as such," He said.
"I am glad," I said.
"Alright, you must go now. Your son's class is starting in a few minutes. Mrs. Williams is going to take him to the classroom," He said, glancing at his watch.
I looked down at Kai, whose expression was suddenly solemn. "Are you ready for your first day of school, baby?"
He looked at me, suddenly unsure and probably rethinking his decision to attend the school.
I gave him a reassuring smile, hoping it would help him.
"Will you be okay without me?" I asked, kneeling in front of him and smoothing out his hair.
He was quiet for a moment, before he nodded. "Yeah, mommy."
"Good. Now, I will pick you up later, I promise okay?" I said, kissing his forehead.
"Okay."
"Be a good boy," I reminded him, holding his hands and looking into his eyes.
"Yes, mommy," He smiled, showing his little dimple.
"I'll be here," I pointed at the entrance, "waiting for you when you get back."
"I can't wait," He grinned.
"Love you, baby," I hugged him tightly.
"Love you too, mommy," He mumbled against my neck.
We pulled away and I gave him a final kiss.
I stood up and watched him disappear into the crowd with his teacher.
"Bye, mommy," Kai said, his voice fading.
"Bye, baby" I called out, trying not to cry.
He was a big boy, and would be fine.
It was his first day, and he was bound to get scared. But he was a tough little boy.
I walked out of the school, feeling a bit empty.
Kai was no longer a baby.
He was growing, and was becoming independent.
It was a scary thought, because I wasn't ready to let go of my baby just yet.
***************
It was a busy day as usual at the restaurant, and I had a lot of work to do. I couldn't focus properly because I was thinking about Kai.
Was he okay?
Was he making friends?
Did he eat his lunch?
Kai hasn't made much friends since he was always with me most of the time. This was the first ever time, since I gave birth to him that we've been separated this long and I didn't know how to feel about it.
What if he feels awkward amongst his new classmates?
What if they bullied him?
Or what if he got scared and started crying?
There were too many possibilities, and it was making me worried.
The thoughts were driving me insane and I couldn't wait until school was over and I could go and pick him up.
"Hello," The cheerful voice of a customer, broke me out of my thoughts.
A familiar scent suddenly enveloped me and I froze. He had our pack's general scent and I haven't sensed it in a long time.
The Alpha and the pack's general scent used to comfort me once upon a time.
Now, I don't know how to feel.
I was nervous.
My heart was racing.
Was I afraid?
What if it's him? What if it was the man I've been avoiding for almost five years?
"Hello, how may I help you?" I said, forcing a smile as I looked at the man standing in front of me.
His eyes widened as recognition dawned on his face. "Ravenna?"
And out of everyone I could meet, it had to be Ryan, Zane's beta and Lilah's mate.
