CHAPTER 5

NEIGHBORING ISLAND

Succubus island was a large island, covering a large part of the ocean, Mighty in frame and dangerous at sight.

Everyone, both young and old, male and female knew, succubus island.

What they didn't know was the smaller slightly different island behind it, filled with Rich trees and fruits and lovely birds flying around it. No one knew a different group of island dwellers lived behind succubus island.

Until today.

Friday 03-06-2007 (08:21am)

“Wait, wait Mani stop” Richard yanked his hand away from her's, ignoring the stinging pain from her tight grip on him, breathing heavily.

“How can you still stand up straight, right after all that running?, hasn't it been an hour already?” He gripped his knees still struggling for breathe.

“Lord help me” he finally sank to the ground, totally worn out.

“I can't run anymore, i don't even know what we are running from.”

Mani on the other hand wasn't paying him much attention, still frantically looking around for being followed, when they heard another distant horn.

“OH COME ON” Rich exclaimed.

“Ew evah it peek gninnur”

“we have to keep running” without as much as a word, she hurled Richard to her shoulder easily, like a sack of potatoes.

“Mani f*****g put me down” she ignored his horrified scream and kept running. Richard has never been so embarrassed in his life, hurled like a sack by a petite looking girl.

He stopped struggling when he realized it was fruitless, and layed there like he was unconscious.

Mani finally stopped when she came out to clearing and put down to his feet. Richard’s face was red with embarrassment as he refused to meet her eyes.

He was used to hurling others, since he was unnaturally strong, he could lift a human with one hand and hurl them to the side of a ship, ( though James made it easy for him since he was thin and kind of small to begin with).

Now karma just made him look stupid. He was hurled by a girl, he might as well die now.

After drowning in his embarrassment, he looked out front and gasped “no f*****g way”

He turned to face Mani, “please tell me we are not crossing that” his eyes were wide.

In Front of them was a water fall, high, below them was endless water, if one fell off it was instant death and now he was being asked to cross that water fall in a log used as a bridge.

Does nature hate him that much?.

He backed away from the edge of the hill and sat on the ground.

“Might as well die here, am not climbing that thing” he shook his head before glancing beside him to find Mani also sitting on the ground staring at him. He raised his eyebrow and made to talk when his stomach decided to disgrace him by growling.

“.......”

Colour rose to his cheeks as Mani giggled at him. She stood and effortlessly climbed a tree , Richard just stared at her.

The air around the island was peaceful, free from pollution and corruption. A place free from his parents control. A calming balm to his pained heart. A place untouched by the society, a place where his saviour lived.

He looked at Mani who was up In a tree picking fruits.

“Why does she look so mystical, like a fairy from a fairytale.

Eyes that sparkle like stars at night.

A smile that light up the dark.

A skin that defines purity.

And a face that demands adoration.

Why does her mere Presence fill so magical.

Why does my heart flutter when we meet eyes.

AND WHEN THE HELL DID I TURN INTO A POET.”

Yellow huffed at Richard who glared at it.

“What's so funny kitten?”

Yellow growled and glared at Richard, Richard glared back as they both battled for dominance, eventually Richard won when yellow looked away.

He smirked at the cheetah, Mani from up the tree giggled at their childish act.

Somewher behind them, in the forest they came from. A dirty figure crawling and sniffing the ground. It has long fingernails, which dug into the soil as it crawled.

The figure stopped at a certain area, lifting up a diamond ring and sniffing it.

The smile that came afterwards was inhumane.

They had being sitting at the edge of the bridge for hours now, and no matter how much courage Richard gathers, the moment he looks at the bridge it shatters into unrecoverable pieces.

“I can't do it” he said as he once again stepped back from the log bridge for the 100th time.

Yellow was already across staring at him, Mani was the most annoyed, they didn't need to communicate for him to feel the annoyance coming off her as she rubbed her forehead.

She couldn't take it anymore when he stepped bank again so she jacked him to her shoulders making him Yelp.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” He screamed which she ignored and walked slowly and steadily on the log.

Rich whose view was down cast shut his eyes. Mani who was walking as gently as she could, misplaced a step making her stumble a little.

“f**k, walk steady, I don't want to die” he clinged to her tightly keeping his eyes shut.

“Ybab a tahw”

“What a baby” Mani murmured.

Richard on the other hand was lost in his head

When the hell did he start showing so much fear and expression. Even when faced with the reality of their dreadful approach to succubus island, he didn't panic, but now he was too scared to cross a broad long log. Was this really him or did he get possessed.

When she finally dropped him on steady ground. A sigh of relief left him and like a button was switched he composed himself, shoulders straight, and his face lost the little emotion it had.

Okay, something was very wrong it's as if fear left his body the moment they crossed the waterfall.

To was then he took his time to scan the lush forest beyond that bridge, total prosperous, different, small unnoticeable difference from the forest he woke up in.

To be sure of himself, he looked at the forest he came from to the one he was heading to and realized.

“This……this isn't succubus island” he murmured with a calm face and a slightly annoyed expression.

Yep the emotionless, fearless Richard Monroe was back in full swing.

Then it dawned on him, Mani wasn't front succubus island, the horn they heard was clearly an alarm, the real succubus island dwellers had noticed their presence.

“Great, there is a second island”.
