Lisa removed her hat and lowered herself onto the edge of the jetty. As she did so, a gust of wind blew her hair forward over her face and, laughing, she brushed it back and jammed the hat down on the springy mess. “There,” she said, and turned her whole body towards him. Even under the hat her face and eyes seemed to radiate warmth and light, as though the sun had slid out from behind a cloud, and when he glanced up at the sky, he saw that the clouds had indeed slipped away and the sky was an intense autumn blue. “Catch anything?” she asked. “Not yet,” he said, pulling in the line that had a hook, sinker and … “No bait!” Lisa laughed as he dropped the line back into the water.
