Adi felt himself drifting as if he had been flung backwards off a cliff. He raised his arms to protect his eyes from the birds of prey that were circling above him, and were diving and pecking at his head and face. He seized hold of the knife on the bench and began moving towards Lisa. At first she said nothing. Then she spoke quietly and firmly, “No, stop it Adi. Put it down.” But he kept coming. She stepped back, two steps, three steps, behind a chair. He pushed it out of the way. Now he was holding the knife high above his shoulder, and she moved again and again to get away from him.
