Chapter 41-1

2047 Words

Chapter 41 Jake eyed Maggie, antsy to get out of the office and embark on her rare two-day weekend. She sighed, fidgeted and paced, nervous as a tick. “How ‘bout we go on our date this Saturday?” Jake asked. “Not until the case is solved. That’s the deal. Besides that, I plan on staying home this weekend alone. I’m locking the door, sleeping, reading, shutting off my cell, and listening to my entire Chieftain CD collection…all by myself.” “Sure you don’t want company? I can get off early.” “Nope.” “Whatever you say.” “But, if you were to drop by on Sunday evening, and I happened to have a roast in the oven and I invited you to stay for dinner, to be polite, of course…as long as you don’t call it a date…” “What time?” “Seven.” “What’ll I bring?” “Ice cream. You pick the flavor.”
