Chapter 5 Climbing the slippery rocks bordering the 80-foot high waterfall at the southernmost tip of the publicly accessible portion of the Moe'uhane nature preserve, Pari was leading the way, followed by Bruno Dover and Manami Murakami. They were scaling along the falls to reach the trail that would take them two miles deeper into the land, to the site of Spectacular Spectulaire's canyon retreat. These three of the eight attendees—Bruno, Manami, and Pari—had chosen to forgo a helicopter ride so they could experience the hike through the forest. As Pari reached the pinnacle of the waterfall, she heard a sharp gasp, followed by a shouted expletive, halfway down below. Manami, clutching her ankle, writhed in agony.
