Chapter 13
Azucara stood in the ruins of the Nutrizeen Labs.
Behind her, a broken wall let in dusk light. Rebar stuck out of the walls, and she was so high up that she felt the wind whip through her. The air was stale from fires that had been raging for days before they were extinguished by the rain.
She was in the ruins of the experiment laboratory. The two-level lab had been full of glass tubes that held Nutrizeen experiments, the monstrosities that Geoffrey had created the first time he injected a vegetable with high doses of Nutrizeen. The experiments had floated in the tubes, connected to wires that monitored their vitals.
Now, all of the tubes were cracked, broken, and drained of all their liquid.
Claw marks fissured the walls, scraped the floor, and spread out in all directions
