Gabriel
“Have you no shame Gabriel?” My Aunt Michelle asked. “Is there no limit to your depravity?”
I fixed my hair as I grabbed my coat and headed towards the front door.
“You can’t talk me out of this. It’s my decision to make.”
“You are making a mistake Gabriel! You are committing a great sin, you and her both.”
I sighed and turned to face her. “I don’t have time for this, and even if I did, I’m not going to stop seeing her.”
“You can’t keep doing this Gabriel! It will only end badly.”
“Why? Because Leon might challenge me to a duel?” I laughed. “He is too obsessed with himself to risk his life.”
“He won’t have to,” my aunt said and frowned. “I’m sure his father knows several men who would come for you, Leon wouldn’t even have to leave his home.”
“I can defend myself, don’t worry about me.” I turned back and the moment I reached for the door she spoke again.
“Then I’ll worry for her. Because only Lord knows what that man will do to your beloved Cecilia behind closed doors.”
My jaw clenched and hand tightened around the door handle. I knew my aunt was trying to get a rise from me and convince me to stop seeing Cecilia; but she wasn’t wrong about me putting Cecilia in harm’s way.
Leon was abusive in every way, if he found out Cecilia was sleeping with another man he’d be capable of anything to assert his power.
I stood frozen at the door, the only sound was my breath and the ticking of the grand clock.
“Please Gabriel, think this through…” my aunt pleaded. “This isn’t right.. it’s not safe. Let her go.”
For a moment I almost agreed with her, I knew she was right. But there was no way I could give up Cecilia now. I had gotten a taste of what it felt like to kiss her, to touch her and feel her warmth.
She had looked at me with desire in her eyes and gasped my name endlessly- there was no way I could give her up now.
I turned back to her and bowed my head. “Goodnight Aunt Michelle, I’ll see you when I get back.”

The opera was packed with people who chatted and laughed through the performance. Why people attended a performance and decided to talk through it never made sense to me.
I sat in my box at the top, scanning the crowd and every nearby box for Cecilia. I knew her face and figure so well that I knew I could spot her in a second, but for some reason I couldn’t find her.
Countless women and desperate mothers smiled and introduced themselves to me the moment I walked into the room but I didn’t register any names or faces.
As I sat silently in my box, a man approached me with a note.
“Your Grace, I have a message for you,” he said, holding a silver tray with a small note on it.
“Who is it from?”
“I’m afraid I was told no name, but it is from a young lady.”
I jumped from my seat and took it. I opened the note and inside in small and elegant writing it read:
Meet me in 10 minutes in box 5.
Cecilia
My stomach twisted and I looked all around me. How has she seen me and I couldn’t see her?
The man walked away and I stood frozen in place. My eyes scanned every seat and every corner until I found her.
Her green eyes were on me, watching me with interest and desire. Her hair was in a ridiculous up do with an oversized tiara, she wore a large Diamond necklace and a hideous cream dress. It looked too big for her and it was over the top decorated with lace.
Leon sat next to her and was leaning over talking to his father. Both had stone grey eyes and cold demeanors, something that was felt and seen even from a distance.
And next to Leon’s father Jean was his wife, Colette Allard. She was a tiny woman who rarely showed any expression. She was quiet and still as a statue everywhere she went. She was neither cruel or kind, she was simply there. I had never been able to figure out whether she was happy or upset, she seemed empty.
But Cecilia was alive. Her green eyes shone with fire and stubbornness. She had an untamed spirit and large heart which was what I loved the most about her.
Neither of us broke eye contact as the seconds ticked by and when it hit the 10 minute mark, we both exited our boxes. An older man had entered Leon’s box and he was too distracted to even notice Cecilia leaving.
I practically ran to box 5 and when I arrived I saw that it was closed off and curtains drawn around it. The seats were stacked against the wall and there was dust everywhere. Before I could observe more, I felt Cecilia pounce on me from behind and kiss my neck.
Her body pressed against me was so familiar and I turned to kiss her and press her against the wall. I held her hips close to mine and made my way down her neck with my teeth.
She moaned my name loudly but it was covered by the music and singing. I felt her heart racing through her dress and she rubbed against me.
“I want you.. now Gabriel.” She said in my ear. “All of you.”
She began to hitch up her skirts and my hands trembled as I began to help her. I desired to be inside of her, to please her and fill her, but I also didn’t want to take her for the first time in a dusty theater box.
I was on the verge of protesting but before I could the entrance curtains to the box opened and there stood Leon’s mother.
Her eyes were distant, mouth in a thin line and jaw clenched.
Cecilia gasped and I felt her begin to shake with fear. She had just been caught on the verge of making love to me while her husband was in the same building. I could only imagine the nightmare that was going to be unleashed on us both.
Leon’s mother held her head high and raised an eyebrow. She spoke firmly but quietly.
“I thought I might find you here.”
