Walking out of the pack-house I found the trackers plus the group of teens that I had taken their items from.
“Alpha” Tracy said as I stepped towards them.
“Hello Tracy.” i said with with a smile.
“Hello Trackers!”
“Alpha.” they all replied.
“This is the beginning of your tracking training. Every day you will meet up with me right in this spot at 1pm. So i expect you to have already had your lunch, and to be ready.”
“Yes Alpha.”
“Today, we have these 6 volunteers that each gave me an item to hide. Their items, I have no idea where they are. They were hidden by the running trainees. They are located somewhere on this territory. We do not know the exact rules yet for the competition so like the runners, we are going to do this the hardest way possible. There will be a new group of volunteers every day. Tracy, you are the only one we have written down for three different competitions. If you feel you would be better at one more than the other, please let me know. We want to make sure you get all the training you can.”
“Thank you Alpha, but I think training for tracking and doing hunting will work hand in hand will be perfect for building both. The team comp will be a breeze with both of my men with me.”
I caught the smirk on Max and Jake’s face and gave her a quick nod. “Perfect, thank you!”
“Ok trackers, pick who you want to track today. They will tell you what you are looking for. Unlike the actual competition, there will be a time limit. I cannot have this be an all day thing. Volunteers will be stationed here, on the front step.”
Pulling out six pocket note pads, I handed each one to a tracker. “Write your name on the cover then give to the volunteer you’re pairing up with.”
“Volunteers, write your names and the item that the tracker is looking for.”
I then handed them each a stop watch. “While you have one hour to find the item, your ultimate goal is to find your item as fast as possible. Volunteers, you will time your tracker and write down how long it took them and where the item was located.”
“Does everyone understand?” I yelled out.
“Yes Alpha.”
“Get to it then.” I yelled out.
“You’re really on top of this.” Max said walking up to me.
“I need to make sure everyone is training properly and have time to train with you two as well.” I said while walking towards a side field.”
“Where are you heading now?” Jake asked.
“The team challenge...how are we going to train for that? We don’t have an obstacle course.”
“Maybe we can talk to Shane, see what he thinks.”
“What about Gamma Harris? I’m sure he has some ideas and could get something built this week.” I turned to Jake.
“I’ll go talk to him.” he replied.
“Thank you!”
‘What are you going to do about the hunters?” Max asked as Jake walked towards his parents house.
“Talked to Charlie about it today, he’s going to shift the freezers today and will make a list of animals we should have them foucs on. Plus he’s going to talk to his friend Jacob from the Red Moon pack about animals that can be used for blankets and clothing. I want to meet up with him to discuss how we can team up to provide items for those that need it.”
“Sounds like you got all of this handled.”
“I need you to come up with a list of warriors that can team up that we can fight, maybe a couple of different teams. I need the toughest, most brutal warriors. Maybe even reach out to your friends…”
“What kind of friends?”
“I know you’re friends with vampires and other shifters.”
“Ok….”
“I think it’d be good to train with them, we have no idea who we’re fighting….other than Carson and we all know he fights dirty.”
“But we also know you can kick his ass.”
I smiled at him, thankful for my brother to always have my back.
“I’ll make some phone calls.”
“Thank you.”
“Where to now?”
“Office. The pads should be in my office for the runners. So i want to create spreadsheets for them and the trackers. As wel as get one set up for the hunters and the team challenge. There’s no way to track us, other than the three of us finding members to fight and training every day. I expect you and Jake to train every day on your own, plus we’ll do 2-3 hours together. Cardio, lifting, fighting. We need to train in all of it.”
“You really want this.”
“More than anything.” I replied back to him.
“And what are you going to do when you see him?”
“Treat him like any other Alpha to his face. I’m not sure what the other Alpha’s know. They all know he was once in line to be our Beta. But that’s it, for all I know he could of spread rumor about us. We’ve never met the Alpha’s of about five of the packs going. So we know four packs, all our allies. I’m hoping to use this time to becoming friendly with the other packs and maybe make allieances with them as well.”
“You will be the first female Alpha that they know.”
“And they should be honored for that.” I replied.
Max smiled at me, “I’m proud of you.” He said to me.
“Max.” I started.
“No listen. I know you’ve been dealt a shitty hand Nikki. Your mate rejected you in the most unforgiving way, dad made you Alpha on his death bed. And now, you have to see your ex as an Alpha, and go to his territory. But i’m here for you, same as Jake. Ok, not same as Jake, not in that way, never in that way.”
I laughed.
“But we’re here and we’ll have our pack-members with us. You won’t be alone. And while we’re on his territory I never want to see you alone. I need, as you brother, for you to be with a member from our pack at all times.”
“Max.”
“No, Nikki, seriously. Who knows what Carson plans...we haven’t seen him in two years. I need you to be protected.”
“Ok….Fine.”
