Red Moon

Alpha Connor’s POV “We’re leaving at 6am tomorrow. I want everyone to get to bed early, no late nighters. We will arrive at Black Moon around 12pm. That’s a 6 hour drive and I don’t want to deal with anyone hungover!” Alpha Connor spoke to his competitors and pack-members that would be joining them for the tournament being held at Black Moon. “Yes Alpha!” Everyone shouted back.  “Good, rest today. You’ve all done a great job these past two months with training and I know you’re all going to kick so much ass this coming week! Pool is open, slides are out for the pups and BBQ is cooking as we speak.”  Everyone bowed to him before focusing their attention on the pool party their Alpha had set up for them.  “Connor, Jacob was hoping to talk to you.” His Beta Seth advised as he walked up to him.  “Do you know what about?”  “He wants us to take a package with us to give to the Alpha of the Blue Ridge pack.”  “Alpha of the Blue Ridge pack? Isn’t that pack’s Alpha female?” Connor asked. “Yes, the one and only.” Seth confirmed. “Alpha Nikki.”  Just hearing her name made his wolf, Timber, sit up with interest. “She’s also unmated.” His Gamma Josh said while wiggling his eyebrows. “I’ve heard she had a mate, but he rejected her due to her manly features!” Seth chimed in dramatically.  “Poor girl!” Shelby, Josh’s mate, said as she walked up next to her mate, taking his hand in hers. “That’s so sad if her mate rejected her. I could never imagine the pain that one goes through being rejected.”  “We should make a bet.” Seth suggested. “If she’s as ugly as the rumor mill suggests.”  “Seriously Seth?” Connor spoke up, “You’re my Beta and you want to make bets on the appearance of another Alpha.”  “Well, someone’s gotta have some fun while at this competition while everyone else is hooking up or finding their mates. We all know I won’t be finding mine.” He said with sadness filling his voice. “Seth, you never know, I’m sure the moon goddess has a mate out there for you.”  “I’m pretty sure I’m the first gay person you’ve ever met and the only one. So that is a HUGE probable no.”  “Well, Seth...you’re an amazing Beta. I wouldn’t pick anyone else to help lead this pack with me, whoever your mate is, HE will be lucky to have you.”  “Thanks Connor.” Seth said with a smile. “But until then, we are both unmated, single wolves. I know you have a secret stash of bi-males on rotation, and I have my stash of female omegas...do we really need a mate?”  “If you want an heir…” Shelby said, Josh squeezing her hand. “We’ll worry about that when the time comes.” Connor replied. He was 24, he didn’t need an heir...yet.  “OKAY! Enough of this mate and pup talk!” Josh said, trying to move them along to the pool party. He had been working his ass off alongside Seth and Connor getting their pack members ready for the tournament and he wanted to be able to enjoy the day with his mate.  “I agree!” Connor said, walking over to a cooler and pulling out four beers. “Drink, eat, relax. We’ve got a wild crazy week coming up.”  Connor walked away from his friends to walk around the BBQ. Stopping at random tables to talk to his pack-mates.  “Uncle Connor!”  Connor turned around to see his 6 year old niece Lilly running up to him with a huge smile on his face.  “Hey Lilly-billy.” Connor said, scooping her up into his arms.  Lilly giggled and hugged her uncle tight around the neck. Sometimes, while Connor was with Lilly, that’s when he would think about his future and how he would go about having an heir. Maybe, if it never happened, he'd appoint Lilly or her future baby brother the heir to rule the pack he thought to himself. He would be scared to leave the pack to Lilly, he’s only heard of one female Alpha and it seemed her name was always in the rumor mill. “Connor.” His sister Jackie walked up to him, her belly round. Her mate Steve close behind her.  “Hey Jackie!” Connor replied.  “Sorry about that, she saw you and just took off.” Steve said. “No worries, I always have time for her.” Connor said while smiling towards Lilly.  “How are you feeling Jackie? Do you really think it’s good idea to come this week?” He asked her. “Are you kidding and miss not only my brother but my mate kick ass at the tournament?”  “Kick ass!” Lilly repeated, causing Jackie to roll her eyes. “Lilly! Do not say that!” Steve was quick to add in, causing Connor to chuckle.  “You do know who her mother is right?”  Jackie laughed as their mother Janet walked up. “Pumpkin come to Nana, don’t want her ears around so many potty mouths!”  “Oh come on mom, we’ve learned from the best.” Connor laughed. “I think not!” Janet was quick to counter. “Anyways, your father and I will be accompanying Jackie and the kids. So there should be no issues. She’s got another month, and the doctor gave her the all clear. We will however be taking our own car because there is no way in he…” she quickly looked at Lilly…”we will not be riding with the rest of the pack members on the buses.”  Connor and Jackie laughed “good save” they both said.  “Plus I want to be able to take some breaks along the way. 6 hours is a long ride for a little one, a pregnant one, and two older ones.”  “Who you calling old?!” Connor’s father Alpha Joe questioned as he stepped up to them.  “Not you.” Jackie said with a wink.  “That’s what I thought.” He said, smacking her butt.  “DAD!” Connor and Jackie both shreeked.  “What?!” He countered. “What did I do?” “Do not do that, not in front of me!” Connor whined. “You’ll understand son. One of these days, you’ll have a mate whom you’ll never want to let out of your bed, or keep your hands off of.” “No no no no no no no no no no” Connor shook his head and began to back up. “Do not, cannot listen to this.”  His parents laughed as Connor turned around to remove himself from his parents' constant handsy actions. It was known about the pack that the former Alpha and Luna acted like they were still  “Alpha!” Connor stopped and turned his head, seeing Jacob rush over to him. “Hello Jacob, Seth had said you were looking for me. What can I help you with?”  “I was hoping we stop at the Blue Ridge Pack on our way up to Black Moon tomorrow.”  “What for?” “Well, as you may have heard, their Alpha and I had come up with a charity to help wolves in need with blankets and clothing. From the animals her pack hunts down. They’ve sent over quite a bit these past two months. Which you might have also noticed, some donations even going to the less fortunate in our own pack.” “I have noticed Jacob, I’ve been meaning to thank you for helping taking care of those that need it. I try my best to see that no one goes hungry and have a roof over their heads.” “And you do an amazing job Alpha!!”  “Thank you.” “But there was a couple of animals, that their furs and skins were so beautiful that I wanted to gift them to Nikki, as a thank you. Not only from those she has helped but from myself. My shop has never been so busy and even though we have been donating the furs and skins. Nikki has always made sure that I received a portion of the meat, which is VERY handy in my household. I have a full freezer because of her. I couldn’t be more thankful.”  “She sounds like a very caring Alpha.” Connor commented. “Charlie, her head chef and I have known each other since the war against Vamps. He’s always talking about how much of a strong and caring Alpha she is. He’s proud to have her as his own, almost as much as I am proud to call you mine.” Connor smiled at him, “I don’t why we can’t make a quick stop. We are leaving very early. They are about 2 hours away from Black Moon. It would give us a break before the final stretch. Should I reach out to her myself?” “No no, I’ll let Charlie know tonight that we’ll be there around 10. Thank you Alpha.” “Have a good one Jacob.” Connor said to him as Jacob ran off to make his phone call to the Chef over at Blue Ridge.  The rest of the pack enjoyed the BBQ, with it ending around 8 so they could all get their rest. Connor was looking forward to the tournament and now he couldn’t stop thinking about meeting the Alpha of Blue Ridge. Was she really as manly as the rumors said? For some reason, deep down he and Timber both seemed antsy about meeting her.
