CHAPTER 17 At first, Lynn was disappointed; in the old oak filing cabinets she’d unearthed old cases of missing pets, spying on errant spouses, minor burglaries, and the occasional fraudulent insurance claim. But then, at the back of the cabinet, she’d come across an odd-looking book, quite dusty, musty-smelling, its pages yellow and brittle, a journal compiled by Larry Meeker, former owner of the agency. In it were his observations and opinions, all pertaining, or so it seemed to Lynn, to cases to which he hadn’t even been assigned!
