“Tell me, Junior, how’s Sally?” He chuckled grimly. “Don’t bother to lie; I know she’s left you.”
“I’m pleased my misfortune cheers you so, Roger.”
“Not at all. I’m merely delighted to have seen through you – once again. I happen to think you and Sally were…uh…well suited to each other.”
“Thanks, though I doubt you meant that as much of a compliment. And she hasn’t ‘left’ me. We’ve quarreled; she’s taking some time by herself.”
Roger laughed. “Well, I still don’t believe Sally’s pregnant. You might have pulled some wool over Father’s eyes, but you never fooled me. And a talent for lying is hardly proof you’ve reformed!”
“Roger, I could care less about your opinions, but if you’re thinking of upsetting Father, I strongly advise you to leave him in peace.”
