Newspaper accounts of Alfie and Lynn’s deaths attributed them to a climbing accident, though not on the cliffs of Camelot. Roger’s death was reportedly an accident, while cleaning his gun. A conspiracy covered by conspiracy; layers of lie upon lie. Since details of the other deaths hadn’t been released to the press, the public remained unaware of any connection. Hawkes had his orders, too.

Sitting in her hospital bed, a rumpled mass of pain from her prolonged labor, Trish Burns, awaiting the imminent delivery of her child, looked down at her cheap fake wedding ring and felt very alone.
