The mark across her palm glimmered silver-black. Then Josiah Black exploded. He was beside her before I could breathe. His shadows snapped hard enough to make the guards step back. Amani Black dropped to Dolly’s other side and reached for her wrist, her face pale but steady. “Dolly,” she whispered. “I’m fine,” Dolly said. She was lying. Everyone knew it. Josiah looked at me, and I saw murder settle in his eyes. “What did you do?” “I didn’t touch her,” “You brought this here,” he accused, and I couldn’t even deny it. “Yes,” I answered, because there was no point in dressing the truth up. “But I didn’t cut her,”
